I wonder if anyone else saw this run-of-the-mill PR516 at Sotheby's with an asking price of $1200 USD? These are common watches and usually sell for 100-200 USD/EUR. Further below is a similar example that sold for 131 EUR (143 USD) in October of this year. Notably, the example from eBay comes with its original signed crown unlike the example from Sotheby's.

That's a weird auction overall. I guess these are Greg Selch's, and it includes some nice pieces that are priced accurately, but also a lot of mundane watches that are priced 4x too high. Maybe they just aren't used to having cheap watches in an auction.

The copy that reads, "Own a piece of watch history, handpicked by visionary Greg Selch," does make me wonder if the prices that are 4-10x too high are incidental, or "justified" by the provenance.
I had the same thought.

it's all a bunch of B.S. there's no justification for this pricing other than a sucker is born every minute. There are still many dealers and private sellers that seem to think the watch market is just as strong as it was in 2020-22.

It's not.

I paid for mine in NOS condition (mint!) about 220 €.

Perhaps I should offer mine here in the OF sales section, as a bargain for 1000€ only ...
