Tissot? - but what did I get?

I’ve always had a soft spot for Tissot and, comparatively recently, have discovered a liking for c-cased styles (and have posted elsewhere my burgeoning collection of them; Connies, Admirals and a Marvin).

Late night (probably too late) surfing on eBay I came across this BIN, which I think is a fun, summery manual watch, that has what I regard as a pretty face and a reasonable strap. It was late, the watch was in the UK (so no tax) and I took the plunge (well not literally, given the fact that the watch probably isn’t waterproof).

So, apart from a pretty watch which (so far) seems to run, what have I got for my £80.00?

Well, on the positive side, in addition to the above, everything (including the case) appears to be new and shiny. The dial looks great and is appropriately badged and marked.

On the negative, it’s too new and shiny. I’d expect the movement (if it were a genuine Tissot) to have ‘Chas Tissot & fils' and I’d expect a nicer caseback and to have paid more. (And there’s a small crack in the crystal that the seller disclosed and which I can live with).

So, I’m doubtful that it’s genuine although I had those doubts when I bought it.

But it is a fun looking watch

I know pretty much nothing about Tissot watches except that I like many of them. But there's an old thread on WUS about a similar watch that members seemed to agree was not genuine.

My gut reaction is that it reminds me a bit of the fake watches I see being sold in India.

Thanks, yes, I read that and thought I’d gone down the same route but, as the watchuseek poster said, “…….. and it does look fantastic“, and I think that the same can be said about my acquisition.

That said, and assuming it is a fake, whoever is producing them is doing a very professional job for, arguably, not much profit.

Yes, I'm often baffled at the economics of high quality fakes. I suppose they must use the same manufacturing equipment that was initially used to fake Rolexes etc, but have had to pivot to brands that might receive less scrutiny.
However, I hope it's clear that I don't really know for sure one way or another if yours is genuine. It does look nice.

I'd send that one back and get your money refunded. Authentic Tissot are not hard to find on the 'Bay and not very expensive.

That, of course, was always an option but I actually like it. I have quite a few nice watches but there are times when it’s nice to wear a beater. I know that some on OF use a Casio or a G-shock, and there are others but I’ll hang onto it and, when I get bored with it it’s onto eBay or a charity shop.
