··Yoda of YodelersHello and happy Boxing Day!! I left the humming bird feeder out in -10 last night. The poor bugger’s sugar water will be frozen until next Christmas 🙁 But I digress…
I’ve been dreaming of the days when flea markets, garage sales and collector meet-ups will once again happen. And I was thinking of how to keep my caseback knife and loupe handy while scoping out deals. So I took some time this week to make prototype 1 of a caseback knife & loupe holster.
Admiration, design thoughts and feedback, as well as a name for this “holster” would all be welcomed 👍
As an overview…
I made this from 3/4 oz natural vegetable-tanned leather and dyed the front black. The back was treated with Smiths leather balm and left undyed so there would be zero chance of dye rub-off on clothes.
The knife sheath is “wet formed” allowing it to keep its shape with our without the knife in it. The knife easily slides in and out, and the snap keeps it securely in place.
I placed the knife higher up on the case to allow space to grab it without having to dig it out. The case itself extends down an inch from the bottom of the knife because of the length of the belt clip. If I went with a belt loop instead of a belt clip, that bottom inch of material wouldn’t be needed. But, I wanted the convenience of being able to put this on and take it off more easily.
The loupe is a bulky beast to wet form, so I made it’s sheath out of two strips of leather. This design also allows the slippery little loupe to be easily fished out without fear of dropping it.
The little “clockwork” stamp was a fun addition, I added my initials in it, and almost got them to line up straight 😬 I’ve just started using letter stamps, they will take some practice!
Thanks in advance for ideas and critiques. What would you want to add to this design?
