Thoughts on this watch on ebay

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get my first vintage watch (my watch knowledge is proficient at best) and have been eying this watch here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2661630919...kbkqhritma&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
My criteria for getting a vintage watch is pretty basic:
- Pretty simple, clear dial with a similar style as this watch (have looked at omegas as well, but the one I was eying was too small (33mm))
- Something that will retain most of its value (in case I change my taste, since I am just getting into watches)

That being said, this watch fits the first criteria in terms of style, but I was hoping to get some thoughts of others on price, retention of value, or anything else that might be helpful on my journey as I get into watches.

Thanks in advance!

Zoom in on the photo and look at the edge of the dial between the 4 and 6 hour markers. That area of the dial appears damaged and I would suspect past water intrusion.

Broadly speaking, there is downward price pressure on a high percentage of the vintage watches on the market. The exceptions would be those models that are in high demand, and those in exceptionally good condition. The watch to which you linked does not fall into either category.

To be clear, vintage Longines are generally fashionable, but that model has a lower quality dial with embossed indices, and there are condition issues as well. If you have a bigger budget, it would make sense to find a better preserved example of a different model.

Hmm, I definitely did not pick up on that. Thanks!

To clarify, when you say exceptionally good condition, this means that the original condition has been maintained, not that it has been polished and redailed. Am I understanding that correctly?

As for models, do you have a couple that I could look into?

No, what you mention is a bare minimum. I am talking about the condition of the various components (i.e. case, movement, dial, hands, etc.). Contrast the excellent condition of this dial with the one to which you linked:

Anyway, the dial in the op's watch looks repainted to me.
