I would say it this way - viewing at various angles through the crystal is absolutely essential to a proper evaluation of the dial.

It is the interpretation of those views that can be treacherous. Experience matters greatly in this regard.

Parallax is unrelated to the crystal. Parallax is the apparent change in position of an object in relation to other objects when viewed from different points of view.

The distortions caused by the glass are due to refraction, which happens when light travels through different mediums (air and crystal in this case) and changes direction.

Thank you for that. I completely misused the term parallax here. I'll try to stick to what I know. Which, going by this thread, is nothing 😵‍💫 👎 🤮 ::facepalm1:: ::psy::

Wow I've not been here long but the breadth of knowledge across all subjects not just UG has been impressing.

I was mostly decided before posting here but with all the comments I think I now have a 100% decision.
