Thoughts on this Omega

Hi,

This watch came up close to me and I am thinking of acquiring it - but would like to hear your opinion. Pictures are bad and few. The seller knows nothing of the watch other than it runs.

My thoughts:
Style looks like mid 40's to me. The shape of the hands look right for that era as do the style of the logo. It seems as if some of the letters in "omega" are not apart as they should be but might be the bad photos (I am able to see the watch before buying). Crown looks right. Dial seems to be in good shape (with patina as expected from this era).

My concerns:
- I have not seen this seconds scale with arabic numerals before
- Is it original with a seconds hand in a different colour
- Case looks like it has had a fair bid of polishing

Asking price is 270 euros, with leeway

What do you think?

Hi !
If you like it, buy it ! a very reasonable investment .. even if it is not exactly what it should be, you can't go wrong IMHO !!😉

You have to like it, and that is all that matters. Still a good price imo

Check the movement before handing over your cash.
I like the simplicity of it.

Price is reasonable though. Try to get a little more details from the seller.

Thanks for the replies. I like the watch but was looking for anyone who could verify the authenticity of the dial/hands.

Seller has no info and cannot open the back.

It would make research easier if you could get the movement caliber and case reference. If the watch interests you, just buy it for the fun of it. It's cheap enough and you can do research to your heart's content once it's in your hands. Sometimes I just buy a cheap watch because I'm curious about it and want a better look. It's a way to learn.

nobody thinks the printing on the dial is suspect ? Dial is also quite spotty...

I was surprised this didn’t get mentioned.

The dial isn't attractive to me, but the OP's comments suggest that he likes it, so I'm not going to judge.

The 5s at 9, 10 and 11 don't match, not a good sign. The Omega word and logo are strangely unfaded compared to the minute / second numerals, and the black second hand looks very new. And I agree with the comment on the dial condition.

It's cheap enough but in that condition it's not exactly a bargain. I'm all for not throwing cold water on someone's dreams, but I also think it's best to know the negatives and thus make an informed judgement.

Yep. It's fine if the OP likes it, but best to make an informed choice before spending money 😉

I had something similar to this watch. Mine's was a ref 2523 cal 231, could be the same. I'm not entirely sure its originality but if you like it, buy it.

Also the 5 o’clock looks too high when compared with the 7 o’clock? Not in line
