Your thoughts on this Omega Seamaster Ploprof - ref. 166.077

Hi!

I am in dialogue with the owner of this Ploprof. He claims it to be from 1971, and he has been the owner of it the last 40 years.
What do you consider a fair price on such a model, with all the battle scars it has and the need for a proper service?
It was last serviced 20 years ago.

To me, the watch is in a shape where I will be comfortable using it everyday, but it is not in a great condition. I do not see any red flags here, when it comes to authenticity.

Hello, from the pictures this looks to be a genuine example in fully original condition. it has been surely used but it is in very good condition. Side note, the bracelet is a vintage one and also has the extension link.

Thank you for your feedback, @flqt-9000. That is the same observations as I have done. Would $2250-$2500 be an okay price?

Hard to imagine you losing money at 2500. Add a 750 to 1k service with a new crystal and you'll have a great wearing watch.

That was what I thought as well, but the seller had been talking to 芦people who knows this禄 and when I bid $2000 to get him started, he replied that he know expected $5000. I will leave it to him to explore his ways to get that amount for an unserviced watch.

Watch is in great condition and all original. Bezel is not cracked. I would say that even at $5000 this watch would be a great deal. From what i have seen recently it is worth around $6000. At $2500 it is a steal! 馃榾

Is it running (even if poorly)?

$5000 is the upper end (in my opinion) as vintage is all about condition. This is clearly "well loved" and will not command top dollar, bezel cracks or not.

It's also a watch that can be found- not super-rare or anything. Keep in polite contact with the seller, if you are willing to spend a bit more than the $2500 for it. It's a good buy in my opinion up to about $5000 but if it does not run, that service could get quite expensive...

Maybe the price is high , but getting one fully original like this one is 芦 rare 禄 2500.- not enought or priced for a service one with service parts, but this one deserves maybe that price.

Original box and paperwork would firm up the pricing but that was not mentioned.

Some sort of interesting diving history (documented) would also help a lot.

Otherwise, it's just a cool old watch, and if the seller finds a buyer at over 5k then more power to him. (my opinion of course, but you have to be somewhat objective)

The watch is in great shape, dial looks good with no black rot on trtium markers, bezel is perfect and the case has no big dings. The pictures are really crap and it shows off all the swirls on the metal and bezel. This is one of the nicer ones I have seen in a while, especially with the original mesh bracelet (most of those mesh bracelets are the service iteration that many people get from Omega direct (i got one myself). The bracelet alone is easily worth $1300, they really never come up for sale. I could bet my left nut that this watch looks way better in person than on those pics. If someone can point me to the right direction where this watch is I would willingly pay $5000 for it 馃榾

The PloProf is the only watch I own that when I smash it into a door frame or pillar I first check the paintwork for chips and scratches before looking at the watch.

Looks well-loved condition. Nothing to shout. At 5k, I would look for other options with top-up.

$5000 is a good price. There's no chance of buying that for $2500. If you do a quick search of Chron24, you'll find about 20 listed. The low end is north of 6k (almost 7).

Servicing through Omega in Bienne should be less than $1000. Maintaining the patina might be a problem if Omega does the refurbishment. I'm not sure if they would allow the oxidized Tritium to remain.

On a 1971 I`d expect some older type of dial, but who knows, what year it is indeed...its looking as compact, original, well used piece... good luck with price negotiations!

$5k is good price and hard to loose money but depends on to what degree you have to have it.
