I am considering to buy this Omega Genève watch. The seller gave the following details:

Dial: Ivory-colored "Pie Pan" design.
Case and Hands: 18k gold.
Movement: Omega Caliber 552
Condition: serviced in 2023, with a certificate included.
Case Size: 34mm diameter.
Strap and Buckle: Original lizard leather strap and Omega buckle.
Accessories: Comes with an Omega travel box in perfect condition.

Thoughts on the value? any red flags? The seller offers it for 2,250 EUR / 2,400 USD

Looks like a nice example. Other than some case polishing, and I've seen far worse, there isn't much complain about.

Nice looking watch. For comparison here is a similar example sold here of OF from collection of one of our OF gurus last fall. Many have crosshair dials

Serviced adds value so price seems ok given gold price.

I’d want to see better pictures of the case. I can’t see from those photos if the case has usual polishing for a gold watch or is particularly over polished. I feel it might be too much for me.

Love gold Omegas! Love early Genèves!

Don't love the too close, overly "polished" photography.

Hi Felix, that Omega Genève looks like a solid piece, but there are a few things to consider. The 18K gold case and Pie Pan dial are great features, and the recent 2023 service adds value, but 2,400 USD feels a bit on the higher side for a Genève unless it’s in pristine, all-original condition. I’d recommend checking if the dial is original or refinished, as that can really impact the value—any signs of patina or aging on it? Also, do you know if the service involved replacing any parts, like the hands or crystal? That might help determine if the price is fair.

Hi John, thanks for your answer and assessment. The seller says all parts are original and none have been replaced... it looks almost too perfect for being 60 years old. He sent this video too

I have been following these for quite a while, so maybe I can offer my thoughts on pricing.

The 18k gold on 34mm go for around 1.6k€ for the date references, in very well preserved / pristine state (ie. unpolished, and perfect or close to perfect dial).

Within the no date references, the small second (with subdial) are more common then center second. I think they tend to command a small premium to the date refs. I have seen many nice 18k ones with subdial sitting at 2k€ for ages (including with less polishing than this one). They do not sell on eBay or local apps. The ones with center second are probably somewhere in between 1.6-2k€.

Of course a service is expensive these days, so that adds a plus if this was done properly.

They don’t come that often in general and are getting pretty hard to find. So you also want to ponder how hard you want to search, and the value you attach to that.

This is a different reference, but this is the type of edges the lugs have on an unpolished case.

Still, a very sweet looking watch!
