Thoughts on this eBay listing (Ploprof)

Sorry to be starting another Ploprof thread, but I was looking for boxes for my 70s Ploprof and came across a listing for a Ploprof selling for $11,000. Looks like all new parts from service with warranty cards etc so I don’t question it’s authenticity, but the price to me just seems high. Are these selling for this amount now?

Filter eBay by “sold” listings and you can see what they have been selling for but sounds really high to me.

Not a lot out there but looks like $8,000 seems like the new market price . Crazy high for me

If it is on eBay I do not trust the ending price to much because many times the sellers has other accounts to bid the right amount he want to achieve for his watch. 11k also looks very high for me.

I get the appeal of having it all serviced and look new. I also understand people not wanting it bc it doesn’t have the vintage look. Looks like it comes with service and original documentation so that is a bonus.

I've had communications with a customer representative from Bienne regarding the 166.077. According to what they say, Omega no longer has service cases available for the Ploprof 600. So if you have one, keep it. If you want one, they are only going up in price.

I thought omega would always have the parts needed to service their watches? I guess you can’t expect them to be able to service everything for eternity. That’s a real shame and wondering what owners options are going to be in the future?

While I generally agree, the case on this model is pretty unique. I wonder how many were sold when they were available from Omega.

Interesting. Had a quick look on the Omega Extranet, and technically this is true - the entire new case is not available as a spare part.

However, all parts of the case are, including the case middle part - the actual container that the movement goes into. So you can't buy a full assembled replacement, but you can get one by buying all the parts. The case middle is a trade in only part though, so you must send the old one back for exchange.

That is great info. The exchange process helps limit the amount of frankenwatches out there.

shameless wtb request: looking for original Ploprof box and blue instruction book if anyone is selling. Thanks

Al, I may not be understanding you completely. Is the part labeled "Case" in this picture, available?

Yes, everything shown is available, just not as a pre-assembled unit.
