Thanks. How hard would be to source the sapphire crystal (AR coated on both sides if not mistaken) to get it replaced? Wonder where can find the part number for it and if the Flyback series uses the same sapphire crystal size or not.
I just picked up this mango, really not sure about the colour, especially as I've only ever worn traditional coloured dials before. It does look different according to the light and hopefully I will get used to it.
Totally agreed- the yellow dial is very fun. I had a sea of black dialed vintage divers and bought a white dialed Seawolf- love it, stands out in the watch box and on the wrist.
Not sure if they are the same. I believe LVMH should have a crystal for this watch. Any authorized repair location should be able to do this.
Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, or LVMH is the name of company that owns the Zenith brand. They also own TAG Heuer and they only sell parts to authorized service centers. They don't sell parts to independent watch makers.
Thanks. I will try to source it through an independent watchmen or seller as they would likely push for a service, which don’t need as the seller was able to provide the recent service record for the watch
Can anyone comment on the "reliability" issue with Primeros? I often see comments from owners who have had a lot of "trouble" with the movements. Not sure if this is something limited to certain years or models, or even if it is just a thing that is said about them even though problems are no more common than with other watches....
They are reliable and highly regarded movements but the fast beat requires regular service. Parts are not easy to find if your repair person is not Zenith authorized but if the movement is in good condition, your El Primero may not require parts. They are not as common as the 7750 or 861 movements, so not all watchmakers service them. Anyone who was Rolex certified will be able to do the job as the EP was used in the automatic Daytona model.
When did they stop making the rainbow flyback (the original not the reissue)? I can’t seem to find that info online.
Here is a source that I found helpful, I hope it helps you out zenith-rainbow-el-primero-overview-all-different-models-1992-1999-a-1028001.html
Just picked up a 01.372.400 (leather model, but came with steel band plus an additional leather band and paperwork) which is from 1993/94 based on what have read. Had before 2 tone models, happy to own this time the all steel version Very little lume after charging it, goes away pretty fast so likely tritium or perhaps luminova (Swiss only on dial):
Well one thing I will say..having purchased a beautiful rainbow flyback from Italy in the summer...communication was poor once the transaction was put thru...and then once I received the watch though it looked beautiful it was in need of a total service (north of $750US) and this after being assured it came from the Zenith Service Center in Italy. Long story short, I am still awaiting it from my repair service person....it is lovely but I will never purchase another watch from Italy. Had a problem years ago with a Blancpain Aqualung....Blancpain would not honor the warranty as the Italian dealer was taken of the AD list......buy at your own risk
