I’m selling a couple of my Rolex’s as I’d like to get my first 1675. This was was up for auction in the UK today and hammered at £5k. That’s around £6800 with fees or around $9k, which was less than I expected. Am I missing something???

To my eyes it’s seems a nice late 70’s example with mk5 dial, original insert, fairly good dial and thick case. The bracelet is wrong but that’s not a huge issue.

Am I missing something?

Looks legit to me and indeed quite cheap or was it a 4.4 (service) case?

Hands look to be luminova replacements, endlinks are not correct. Case is not the best has been polished but it's not the worse I've seen. Dial looks decent, has the fat hour markers. Insert is a nice fat font with lots of wear. So, is it worth $9K? To me, I think it needs about 1.5-3.5K of work (service($1K) , hands ($1K), pepsi insert ($1.5K), endlinks ($300) case/bracelet refinish ?) to bring it back to life which would put it the watch in the low/mid teens. Some of this is purely optional based on preference. If you're looking for beater to wear everyday to mow your lawn, then by all means, this fits the bill. Otherwise, you'd have to sink some cash to make it somewhat more appealing.

Best.

On my computer, the insert appears to be totally black. If so, we would need to know the serial to know if it's plausibly original. Not as desirable in any case. Hands probably not original, as @ATWG noted. Case is decent. I'd say the price is not bad.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it.

I was so focussed on the case and dial I missed the hands!
The serial is 5.1 so around ‘77 which I believe is ok for a noir insert?

So is it just the Endlinks that are incorrect? I was assuming the 93150 was also incorrect here?

It's not correct/original, but it doesn't really affect value significantly, IMO.

With all that cheese on the case, I would be expecting a plenty of corrosion.

I do usually associate gunk between the lugs etc with a higher risk of corrosion but I think this one’s ok. It usually travels to the caseback threads and I can’t see any of that here.

Thanks for all the replies. For full disclosure I bought this watch.
I’ve wanted to get into 1675’s for a while and my view is that researching only gets you so far, at some point you have to put your money where your mouth is an hold/own one so this is me breaking my duck.

Ill post some better pictures when it arrives but here’s another picture of the dial the auction house sent me prior to the auction.

Cool watch, and a cool move David!
And true that you have to handle a few to get to know them!
Congrats!

Oh I’m well acquainted with that site Hans! I know it front to back now which is why I felt “enough navel gazing now, let’s buy one of these things!”

Thanks. My dad lives local to the auction house and collected it today so I should have it in hand by the weekend.

A bit of an update…

The watch arrived this morning, just as filthy as I expected, with the associated seized bezel to boot!
I’ve got to say, it’s quite appropriate it’s Christmas, as these are like presents to me. I absolutely love buying old watches, opening the package to find them caked in years of dirt and scum, with a scratched crystal to (hopefully) reveal the diamond in the rough after a good clean.

I got the bracelet and bezel off and started carefully cleaning the case while the bracelet was in the ultrasonic. The crud covering every nook and cranny was very dry and powdery, not the oily, mud type grime that I usually associate with potential corrosion. Thankfully, this proved to be the case as between the lugs is free from corrosion spots and the serial and ref are clearly visible.
The case has clearly been aged by wear over the years but it’s pretty sharp, just how I like them and looks much better after a clean. Same with the bezel which is now rotating as it should.

The dial is wonderful. Really crisp with nice attractive lume. I haven’t checked with a light yet but the hands certainly appear to be service as spotted by @ATWG. There are a couple of corrosion spots on the retention ring around the dial so rather than risk these coming loose and staining the dial, it’s going away for a service before I wear it.

Here are some before shots.

Thanks for sharing David!
The feeling about a Christmas gift is spot on!
And the case looks really really nice!!
Lets hope the dial will be equally nice - it looks very promising!
Congrats Mate!!

Pretty nice entry point. My desire for a 1675 has always been kept in check by the case, dial, bezel or price of any watch I've come across. Your watch would have had me reaching for my wallet.

Congrats.
