Thoughts on this 145.022-68

Hi all

i finally got myself a 145.022-68. I bought it locally at what seems a decent price (6k€). It’s not perfect but it « spoke » to me and I had to make a quick decision.
The dial is perfect (the spots we see are on the crystal) but the lume suffered some loss. Faded DON looks good to me, case still thick IMO. Original 1.69 1039 (repolished?) Service crown (I think?) and crystal.

Was wondering if I made a right call or a rushed one . Anything I’m missing?
Thanks!

Looks pretty great to me! Congrats on the score. Those drop chrono hands are lovely.

I wonder why all the paint is missing from the centre of the H&M hands. I guess they got scratched and someone decided to clean it all off to make it look neater.

Very cool! Love this reference as it is very rare and it’s a true “transitional”. I personally like it very much. Good catch for that kind of money IMO

Well done! I have a few myself and am still amazed with the good value and immense variety within such a small series.

As a continuation of a thread I started earlier on Transitionals; I would be curious to learn what the serial of yours starts with? As opposed to yours, most Transitionals seem to come with the square ended Chrono hand.

I was thinking about the chrono hands too - there was a move from drop to square end during the 145.012-68 era, so it's quite possible that the hand was changed or maybe the transition between drop and square lasted longer than was previously thought - whatever, it's a lovely looking watch!

i’d say it starts with 26.55 but I’ll confirm that tonight 😀
I like that chrono hand though!

Very nice watch for the price but the chrono hand may not be correct for this reference

I read on speedmaster101 that it could be a spear end chrono hand...Is the info outdated?
https://speedmaster101.com/145-022-transitional/

Thanks for the feedbacks!

It could still be correct, hence my question about the serial number. If that would be higher than known correct examples with a square end chrono hand, it would cast a doubt... Still, there is no absolute certainty as Omega 'played around' occasionally.

At the moment, the only answer would be; we have too little information to tell based on what we know now.

The crown should be a flat feet though, any idea if this one is an old or more recent service replacement?

It’s a very, very early serial so I wouldn’t cast too much doubt on the chrono hand. It looks better that away anyway 😀

For the same reason the crown should be flat feet, though. You can’t still find occasionally but prepare to drop a few $$$ if you want one.

EDIT: lovely patine on the bezel

Thanks, that’s what I thought too about the crown...Wondering if it’s worth it though as it seems those flat feet go for about 500$, I’m not sure the watch’s value would increase that much if it had one

Congrats! Damn fine looking example. I just bought one as well this week, mine is more of a project, more on that another day. I especially like the case, dial and bezel combination, they match each other very well. Crown and pushers look to be service replacements but I agree they don't detract at all from the look and value of the piece and I wouldn't spend the money on a crown replacement unless you were just a stickler for getting the watch back to all original condition. Well done sir, enjoy and thanks for sharing.

Congratulations on a most excellent call. I prefer tear drop second hands as well. Enjoy in good health. Beautiful!
