Handled the RM11-03. Nice. Well built. But not USD140K worth for me.

if priced lower, say USD40K, i might bite.

The site describing the RM pen reminded me of a joke site announcing the all mechanical Apple watch.
I tried to find it again but couldn't. IIRC there was a video showing a ridiculously complex movement squeezed into an Apple Watch case.

An episode of Murdoc's Mysteries featured a cutting edge (late 1890's cutting edge) pen, I looked into the development of high end pens of the day from fountain pens on into the development of the ball point. There was an enormous amount of competition back then.
The term exquisite comes to mind, building something from materials and to tolerances far more expensive and time consuming than the end product warrants.
The RM products are at least unique in construction and the not gaudy abortions that so many high priced status symbols are.

I think they do quite gaudy
A little trinket we tried on in Leeds at one of the GTGs (not my arm!)
I think if I was going to spend this kind of money, (about £175k IIRC) I'd rather have a rather beautiful Patek instead

I actually like at least some really unusually designed watches (think some of the Graham L.E. models) but I have yet to find an R.M. watch that does it for me. I've seen some in person (seeing cool watches was one of the perks of L.A. I miss), handled a few, even got to wear one for an afternoon when a co-worker and fellow collector thought it was just that I hadn't tried one on - I wore his R.M. for an afternoon around the office while he wore my small, narrow, hard-to-read-in-a-different-way vintage Elgin tank case.

By 5:00 we had reached an agreement: money aside, he's the avant-garde and I guess I'm the old guard. We were both happy to trade back. 😁

😵‍💫 ...ok dangit I grudgingly admit I kinda want one of the pens.

conservative watch forum 😕
Statement probably makes sense. I usually check out WRUW everyday and for the most part you don’t see a lot of blingy watches. And If someone likes blingy watches that is find by me. I guess it’s in the interpretation of the word conservative. I think I would feel odd wearing certain Richard Milles. I certainly appreciate them (expect the skull one) but I just Think they are a little “loud”

They're designed for a persona, IMO, and if you're comfortable enough walking around with $150-250k on your wrist, you're probably rarely in a position to worry about said asset (ie. money is no object).

Lots of things are beautiful in their own right but impractical for most circumstances. I'd love an aston martin vantage (or DB11, or fill in the blank with most models) but they're sports cars that are impractical for most climates, most lifestyles and most people that would actually need to drive one.

I just have to say, for someone who's avatar is one of THE icons of the 80s, you make a good point about personas.

Of course, this is coming from a guy whose avatar is an icon of the 40s....like the guy said in Some Like it Hot: "Nobodies' perfect!" 😁

p.s. Whichever Aston you don't take I happily will!

Bogart was not one dimensional, he was just consistent

True. Led a helluva life - Tough Without a Gun is a good bio read for anyone who wants one.

But I digress from Mille. Can't object to their quality, just not for me.

Oh cool I’m actually a big bogart fan. Robinson as well but I know little of Bogarts life might be an interesting read.

I like Bogart and understand him.

I can't fathom Richard Mille.

I've considered this thread for several days now and personal thoughts on RM are ... just no. If money was no object the answer is still a resounding "no." I could endlessly spend money on something other than any RM creation. Just not special to me. In fact the watches look like so much "leg pulling" to me, "Emperor''s New Clothes" and such like.

I don’t know if money were no object I might consider it. I mean the craftsmanship appears to be amazing. Maybe since I enjoy collecting watches it would be cool to have one in the collection. In reality though I don’t think they make anything around 40mm or a little under. I just can’t wear monstrosities I look silly in them. Wouldn’t make sense to buy it just to “have”
