Not Particularly a monarchist but think the painting is fantastic. The skill to work in all different shades of one colour andt still maintain sharp definition must be incredible

I think the use of red was a good choice.
It’s symbolic of passion, and whatever one’s views on the monarchy are, I don’t think anyone can deny his passion for various causes, over the years.

Thought the Palace might have steered clear of commissioned work after Rolf.

It does look undeniably evil but it also looks pretty sweet. It reminds me a little of the painting from Ghostbusters 2.

From memory we have a system in Australia where we can request a portrait of the king for free, along with Australian flags since we co-parent him with the British. If the new portrait you can order looks like this I might see about getting it.

Quite a lot of comments in the UK that Charlie looks like Han Solo in the Empire Strikes Back when he gets frozen in Carbonite.

So that will be 26.7 million prints to mail out, I hope Australia Post is up to the task.::facepalm1::

It'll be at the cost of the UK tax payers like the £8 million we have to fork out to distribute his "free" portrait around various establishments and institutions.

Personally I think the criticism is a little unfair but I get where they’re coming from.

The artist has an unerring ability to capture the likeness of a subject but the paintings tend to lack the character or sprit of the subject - which is where brilliant portraiture lies.

Quite mild criticism considering it's from The Guardian.

They should have commissioned Frank Auerbach instead of Yeo and got a genuinely interesting painting.

Well, as an Englishman, I quite like Yeo’s portrait but, while we’re doing art, I do wonder what the OF Aussies make of this Namatjira painting ..

It's a perfect likeness! Except it doesn't show her ugly personality, she is a very nasty piece of work, and no picture could hope to show that!

Ok the Han Solo and Vigo the Carpathian (Ghostbusters 2 portrait) ones are good 👍
Not from the UK but I’ll give an artists view. Overall detail is good especially the face. Me personally I would have tried to go with purple or a variation since that goes with royalty and him. Red IMHO is too strong of a presence and doesn’t go well with his personality. Just my 2 cents thought from the US
