Please don't think I'm laughing at you, just about that stupid mistake! 馃槣

Man, the photo of the seller did not show that clearly. I explicit asked him about the originality of the item, and he claimed it is NOS genuine 馃榾.

Common-sense should have told you that you are not going to get a genuine Omega strap and buckle for 35 quid, really. But put it on a watch and it will look absolutely fine 馃槑 Nobody is going to check that tiny writing when it's on your wrist . . .

I think most of us have a less forgiving attitude about counterfeit merchandise.

It's 35 quid, not 拢3,500. And he can probably send it back for a refund, anyway. God, what a fuss . . . 馃槈

It's counterfeit, not authentic. That's the "fuss". You're CLEARLY in the minority here on fake merchandise.

This is one area where my feelings really don't line up with the majority. I actually don't have a problem with replica buckles provided that the seller identifies it as such and any precious metals are exactly what they say they are. I realize that I've knocked most eBay replicas out of the box, but there are some sellers who are honest about what they are selling.

The problem here is that Omega (and many other watch companies) refuses to produce buckles under their own licenses that even come close to resembling the older designs. Nor do they take any legal actions against those that fill the void (BTW, I think they should defend their trademarks a bit more vigorously, but that's their decision, not mine). Since over 90% of the buckles on eBay are replicas, some better than others, then I've long ago thrown in the towel and have made the assumption that none of them are real. Life is a lot easier that way.

On the consumer end, the only thing I can say is that if you want to buy an authentic looking Omega buckle for under $50, then understand that it is highly likely that you will not be getting the genuine article. However, for around $25, you can get a perfectly good, modern and legitimate gold-plated Omega buckle from an authorized supplier like Ofrei.com.

For my part, I've stopped adding mental value to having a real buckle on a vintage watch. Realize that most times that the original was thrown away when the watch band was changed out many years ago. I've seen many watches with original boxes and papers that didn't have the buckle.

It's a low value item that people just didn't pay much attention to years ago. Even gold ones were discarded.

Caveat emptor,

Seller accepts returns, so that's the first thing to do.

The seller feedback identified by Steve is a great example of how a bit of checking of eBay feedback will throw up obvious red flags.

Dennis, that's just fine. I am perfectly happy to be CLEARLY in the minority on almost anything, actually. And I don't take very kindly to being shouted at over a matter of opinion 馃槈

That's just fine with me too. I don't take well to anyone who supports counterfeit merchandise. Neither does the law as far as I know. But to each his own.

This is all "light-hearted" banter right? I don't want to bring out the angry squirrel again.....

P.s. I think I have a few counterfeit ones... usually sold to me on reputable sellers of watches! And the "lucky finds" that i'm pretty sure are original I haven't, incidentally had to fork out an arm and a leg for...? Go Figure! 馃檮

Hands up all those who have been checking their ones after reading this. Then, keep your hand up if you cringed when you realised.

Good - I'm not the only one with his hand still in the air. I've got one with it all in one word.
