So it took some time and effort to put this one together. I'm in a proces of drifting away a bit from dress watches. But dont worry. I'll be back. I must say, I like this one. If I got the time table correct it's from 1969. Sharp lines, attractive dial and beautiful movement. Hope you enjoy the pictures! And thnx to @Dan S and @cristos71 who helped me with this one!
Very nice! If I had the cash (and the time to find one), I'd chase after one like this, I like Eternas and this model in particular. Do you know about the Kontiki 20? A good middle between dress and diver, like a rugged datejust.
Looks great, fantastic story behind and congrats! I was stunned few days ago, when I have learned, that Eterna is no longer Swiss and modern Kontiki is not even powered with ETA, but with Sellita SW200 movement...
These are things I could forgive, but the fact that all their watches are like 44mm is just terrible. They could sell tons of reissues of original Kontikis and Super Kontikis if they just kept them to 39mm (former) and 42mm (latter)
Yes. I'm looking at other eterna's as well. One of my goals after the summer of 2020 was to widen my search/horizon a bit. And that super kontiki ticked all the boxes.
The dial of your super kontiki is really cool . If you want some pics of regular Kontikis for reference I have a pair.
Beautiful watch. Still want a 130tt but good condition is hard to find, and am looking at omegas more Zdzislaw -Gotta defend eterna:The modern royal Kon tiki has a manufacture movement (39 series) but the basic ones are lower quality. Unlike many movements the eterna 39 is a genuine Swiss product although Chinese owned as you say. Having looked at various watches with it in, it seems it militates to a case at least 42mm and 12mm which is a shame. Agree most of what they produced recently is big and ugly but the reveil (historic movement) and the soleure moon phase were nice. I still think they do hands and indices and dials very well. Design and price point are muddled
It’s fun to see when collectors start shifting their focus. I remember a time when it was all dress/work all the time from @Shabbaz - perhaps the isolation is loosening up the tie a bit. I’ve had a similar migration in my own collection from 40’s/50’s simple sport watches to more diver/sport late 60’s/70’s watches - getting a little more funky!
I am going the other way.liking .WW1 and probably heading towards a repeater pocket watch... will end up with a water clock then a sundial at this rate!
