Thing That Annoys You Most As a Watch Collector

I have small wrist, so one thing that annoys me is that other people may have the same size wrist as I do, but all wrists are not the same, so I find some models that overhang on the sides of my wrist, but for other person with the same size wrist works just fine.

There is no substitute to going to the store and trying it on.

From my early days in collecting, and I don’t have those watches anymore

And I have ranted on this before, the hyperbole involved with upselling patina. There is mellowed with age and there is damage....to paraphrase another member- don’t piss on my shoe and tell me it’s a glitter rainbow of magical colors with a starry night, chocolaty butterscotch tropical breeze infused spider dial...it friggin damaged.
Lol, tropical breeze infused spider dial!!! Lmao

What annoys me most are the dirty hoarders ... you know who you are. :whipped:

I mean c'mon, leave some for the rest of us! 😉

I think he’s also talking about the vintage hoarders too. Seriously, how many Connie’s does one person really need....oh no, I’m sure we are about to get group shots.

I may be guilty of 'hoarding' - i usually buy if its a good deal even if I already have one... shame shame shame

The difference between hoarding and collecting is curation. I love a good deal as much as the next guy, but then people should throw the lesser ones back into the pool so the rest of us can have a shot at them.

I think a lot of it is speculation too - expecting them to go up and up (Rolex especially). Not going to rush it but Ill post some when I progressively gain some more activity on here. Is there a collection thread? Would be awesome to see what people have here!

You could start your own thread on group shots in the modern or vintage forums). But if you do, make sure the groups have themes otherwise they cause people’s head to explode.

Psoriasis and small wrists. My two big pet peeves. I’ll have little dots of psoriasis as I take a wrist shot and need to position the camera so they don’t show. I also bought midsize watches for years which I don’t mind but now I find 40mm would have been fine all along. Must have been a twinge of body dysmorphic disorder. Being able to pull off midsize can save a few bucks though.

Envy as well, I get envious of all the nice, or better than I, watches many of you have. Not to sound like I’m crying but I’m currently going through issues with my job and need a surgery that will keep me out for at least three months. Mind you I broke my hand at work and was out for three and a half months prior to this. Ok enough about me whining I’m gonna buy a watch to cheer me up.

Some of the "groupthink"/orthodoxy that leads to the automatic disparaging of redials, relumes and sometimes any hint of refurbishment/restoration, no matter how well or sympathetically done.

Yeah...probably...although I think I could’ve probably rigged something up with the spiffy replica spaceman strap for a groin strain since I have years of academy training regarding rigging other stuff up...you know...belt, headband, blah, blah, blah...😁
