On the debate about whether early Speedmasters had bevels or not...

A 2998-1... looking pretty well worn with original finishes to my eye ...

aeeeiiiiii! is that in your watch box @eugeneandresson?

Unfortunately not. Its a watch that popped up into my feed that reminded me of the topic. Apparently Omega didn’t do that...rather many third parties did that to all these watches almost identically (edit: or it’s not considered a bevel as the facet is a curved surface...a play on words?)...

@eugeneandresson, makes me wonder why the trilogy set had pretty well defined bevels... i mean, if they were trying to be faithful - and they did a pretty good job -- how could the case/lugs not be referenced with original specs? I'm sure there's a reason, but I'm not smart enough to even guess.

Edit: credit for photo to it's owner. a very simple search on google should find the info you might need along with many other reference pics of these watches.

Believe it or not: I was thinking seriously about posting in this thread again, because I know I fight against windmills.

But at least it's fun to discuss these things. And if everything was for sure, life would be boring. 😀
I am Speedy fan and have three, and am looking for a straight lugged speedy. This is interesting , but after looking at this thread for an hour, I think I have lost the will to live!
Considering an Ed White or birth year watch 1962.What a minefield.
It's fun , but my wife tells me to stop looking at blasted watches all day.(Not the words she used!)
It is addictive.!

Another interesting old thread. So many good ones. Here's a 105.002 (I may have gotten carried away with the photos, but it's hard to capture all the angles in a few shots, at least for me):

I am yet wiser, I was told my 2998.5 was severely polished.
Now I am not so sure, thanks to this thread.
