Hello All!

Newbie to the forum here, but long time lurker on some other vintage watch pages.
I recently acquired this UG Aero as my first foray into the world of UG. (ref 22538, cal.287)

This thread appears to be THE place for UG Aeros on the web.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the dial: To my eye it looked spot on; crisp clear even markings with an appropriate amount of patina... but having now read through this entire thread, I haven't seen another one without arabic numerals as presented here.

Clearly the lume on the sword hands has been changed, since it now covers the bluing. but it was definitely a long time ago as some corrosion has stained the hour marker, and radiation is confirmed 😀

Other unusual details are the bevelling on the lugs. Very keen to hear your thoughts onthe originality of this piece in general, and how all of this might impact value.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, and please be kind if I am being retarded 😉

Welcome to the forum ! Congrats on your new Aero. The case and dial look fine to me. You should always check the case reference against the UG archives pics and other examples online to make sure it's a match. You will see the UG archives pic for your reference happens to have a very similar dial (although that's just by chance, it could have had a completely different dial, as the case reference only indicates the case, and not the dial).

The only thing that looks wrong is the small hands on the momento (top) subdial. The hour hand is def wrong, not sure on the minute hand. That will probably be near impossible to find so perhaps best to not worry about it.

If it were me I would have the hands relumed (and perhaps the dial, if the current lume on the dial is not original and has already been redone?). There are some great relume artists that can do amazing work.

Enjoy your Aero !

Wow, Thanks to all of you @bgrisso @Mark020 for the amazing feedback so fast! What a great community! I am very encouraged to get the lume work done. Dial seems untouched so reluctant to re apply. Maybe someone could DM me with a link in the forum to where i could find such artisans 😀

I actually prefer the hourglass hands to the sticks which are factory, and as you say, they are def unobtanium in any case. I am super happy if the dial is all original.. the condition seems to be very very good vs most of whats out there. Not to gloat, that is. thanks again for the info.

No, not exactly. There is a book by Sala that has the archives printed, there is a website online with some archives as well, but I’m not sure if it has everything from the book?

Nice Aero ... I would be interested in serial number as it does look like it has a late dial.

Seller states original 😉
It most definitely is not. Fonts are wrong. That said, not a bad redial.

Regarding the memento subdial hands, I think that “leaf” hands were commonly used too, probably on later examples. But it’s true the memento hour subhand seems a bit too fat.
