4) It’s often much cheaper than a Cocaine habit

5) And, related to 4), often less expensive than the subsequent rehab

6) Hey, you have to have SOMETHING to get you through daily life

7) It can sometimes be a good investment

And related to 10):

11) Makes possible all the hillarious Hodinkee memes

My wife tolerates my watch hobby saying it is okay for me to spend some money and time on it, if it pervents me from finding a younger “model” and wanting a divorce when I reach my forties and have my midlife crisis 😁 Although it should be said that my wife also likes watches and has a few herself, so it could apply for her as well I guess.

They don’t have to know what I spend on servicing, fancy straps, bracelets and buckles…

13- In an era of recycling, I feel I am doing my part in resurrecting useable watches out of about 50 pounds (or more) of scrap watches in my stash that might otherwise clutter up the landfill. Makes me feel good.

Keeps you out of trouble which is most of these points summarised. An idle mind is prone to temptation.

Watches cannot be rationalized nor defended to anyone not similarly afflicted. If they have to be explained, you have already lost the listener.

Somewhere in that 50 pounds there's bound to be a watch that could have a home here.

I'm going to channel this perspective next time I need motivation to go workout. Problem is, sometimes I avoid the gym because I don't want to to take off my watch!

If it’s her money:

1) investment
2) it makes you look thin
3) chicks with watches are that much more beautiful

16) There is no rationalization possible. It makes no sense whatsoever. But neither does anything else. So why not?

Here is another example. When I got home I was wearing my captain cook. I realized it was garbage day so I took the time to set the ratty example of my vader to take out the garbage and recycle bins. Didn’t seem prudent to wear the nato captain cook for dirty garbage. Of course I have a nicer example of the seiko vader for non garbage activities but it all makes perfect sense if you don’t think about it.

There is no rational explanation and doesn't need to be however when I point out to non collectors that vintage watches are rising in value far outstripping traditional investments like gold or shares they start to see the point.

Any one of above is enough to start with; you'll not need other reasons, you'll invent your own after some time.

Just keep reading a watch forum discussions to expedite your addition.
