The Speedmaster hesalite and saphire sandwich are discontinued

The new line will include hesalite and sapphire, same as before, as well as white gold and yellow gold versions. All with the 3861 movement. So "discontinued" is maybe a bit strong as stated, although if you were to say the 1861/1863 Speedies are being discontinued then that's perfectly accurate. There is also a new bracelet, which I think we can all agree is a good thing!

That's okay, my initial thought was "another moon landing". 😎

Mine was, "Altogether Moon Landing" ... an escape from the current situation!

The price increase has nothing to do with discontinued or a new movement. It's just the sound of our fiat currencies making for the exit.

Cue the inevitable ‘Does the new bracelet fit the 1861 model?’ threads 😉 (Though I hope it does)

Fair, but I can't see them becoming "hyped" as Al thinks that what people are trying to do. There are hundreds of thousands of 1861's out there new and used. I doubt they will become "hyped" in our lifetimes.

There's probably ten times the amount of Submariners out there which there are for Speedmasters and the decade old Submariners increased practically overnight by about £3000 for no reason other than people couldn't walk into a shop and buy a modern current one anymore because of "wait lists" so who knows what's going to happen when it's truly gone and replaced by 3861.

The new cases have a small rebate where the end links meet the case on the new bracelets. The end links have a small projection that slots into this, replacing the two projecting tabs that historically sit under the lugs to stop the end links wobbling.

From what I’ve seen this means when you fit new bracelets on older cases the end link can sit at a funny angle.

Am I the only person who likes the current Moonwatch bracelet?

Not the only one, I'm sure, there are probably a few others who like it.

+1

Although I could do without the protruding links, overall I like the bracelet.

I personally hate all the newer speedy bracelets (1498 and on), they are too thick and clunky for my taste. And I prefer more of a taper......but this is just my 2 cents.

All downhill since the flat-links...

My first Omega was a 2254, so I've always enjoyed the modern Speedmaster bracelet. I rank it as my favorite bracelet in Omega's current production line-up.

The newer bracelets on models like the Globemaster, PO, SM 300, are just too heavy for me. The weight of the standard issue Speedmaster is a perfect balance with the weight of the watch head. The only thing I would do to optimize the current bracelet is to increase its clasp length by another 2 mm, to add in a 3rd micro-adjustment slot.

Top 3 things on my wishlist
for the eventual 3861-powered successor to the current Moonwatch:
1) Hesalite Crystal
2) Light bracelet, with minimal polished surfaces.
3) Smooth caseback, like the one on the 60th anniversary. The sharp, raised hippocampus on the Speedy Pro was painful to wear and left red stamps on my forearm at the end of the day <- I found this unacceptable for a luxury watch. I nearly sold my Speedmaster because of how much wrist irritation and pain that raised hippocampus medallion caused, constantly eating into my skin. Thankfully an after-market solution was available from Thomas Priek.

I was in an AD yesterday in Australia and noticed the current Hesalite Speedy was reduced in price by Au$300, which would support the revamp of the line . A bit torn now; heart says Hesalite Speedy whereas head says Seamaster 300m (but that’s a whole different topic)

I don’t mind the current bracelet, but it would be nice to have another modern option (aside from US & Forstner). The biggest issue with the current bracelet is the relative lack of adjustment.

It also seems like every new bracelet has a slightly different size or fitting - something universal would be nice so you didn’t have to fart around filing metal, etc. to make things fit. But I guess it’s marketing...

I don't mind it at all and actually appreciate it more than any others that have come before it.
I fully appreciate the fact they finally bothered to screw it together.
Then on the other hand i'm not a fan of Omega bracelets anyway and both my Omegas are on straps because the twisted lug case design lends itself to the variation and elegance of a strap.

with all this chatter about hesalite and FOIS being discontinued, I felt a sense of impulse to wear my manly and sexist —I mean, sexy Speedy— this afternoon 😀
