This Patek Philippe sold today at Phillips NY. Proceeds to the Nature Conservancy.
I borrowed my wife’s Six Million Dollar (man) watch.
Very entertaining auction and it was perfectly timed between F1 qualifying and the Army Navy game.

Have a very nice weekend!

The charity aspect makes a bit of sense this time around, if you want to do something for a good cause and have an amazing watch to remember it by this is a nice way to do it.

If people are willing to pay millions for a non-fungible NFT, why not $5.4 million for a Nautilus that Patek Philippe and Tiffany marketed like a fine Stradivarius. It's money going from one pocket to the next, it's just part of a marketing budget.

They didn’t market it like a fine Stradivarius though, they marketed it as a different dial color for a sports watch and set the retail price at $53,000.

Should it have instead started at $0.05?

Is this the one off?

yeah if your Patek collector this is pretty much the Nautilus to end all Nautilus. The model was canceled a few years back at the height of its popularity as Patek didn’t like the attention it was getting and demands for more production. This is to celebrate Tiffany joining the family over at LVMH?

I have been hoping for Verstappen just for something different but this has been a close fight and I will be happy if Lewis wins.

Last year I stopped watching F1 because it had become so predictable. This season has not been a walk in the park for Hamilton and if he wins, it will be well deserved.

I think Hamilton will win based on tire selection. In the end, I am hoping for a clean race. No injuries or controversy please!

1 of 170 (for Tiffanys 170th anniversary)

And it is hideous 🤮

Yes, somehow that dial colour does not go that well with the watch. I like it far more on the Rolex OP or the Doxa 600T

Pretty watch and I like the dial color!
You could wear this watch with shorts and a white shirt on your yacht and watching the sunset!
Ok Time to wake up now!!

Since this thread has been revived, I see no mention in the posts that since this was a charity auction, someone with a large enough tax bill could use the difference between the fair market value and the auction result as a tax write off. Essentially paying "only" $52,635 for the watch, at which point it becomes a good deal, given the market.
That being said, I would not want to be seen wearing such a desperate attention seeking "thing".

i don’t think that’s how tax write-offs work, exactly 😁

Yes, thank you, I should not form thoughts while getting off the subway. 🤦
You are right that they reduce their taxable income by that amount and the saving would depend on the respective tax bracket they are in. That being said, the charity and tax aspect are still the drivers of that auction result and say little about the value of the watch.
