I have an older SKX that is in the 38mm size. I think the reference is SKX025. It fits my vintage inspired wrists a little better than the 007. I liked the colors better too.

12.1mm thickness down from 13mm of the SKX013. It was the reason I ended up selling my 013. For many the 38mm case is the perfect size on the wrist, same as 013. As for the colors it's nice to have a choice but for me a diver is either black or black.⌚️

I am like you, but on certain special occasions I can go for a little darker shade of black too.
I think the colored ones are for diver wannabe’s ::stirthepot::.

SKX runs strong in the Foo Household.

my trusty 009 with Foogirls midsized.
I’ve got an unopened 007 from the last production month and a moded gold 5kx.

That's a winner right out of the gate, guaranteed hot sellers.

On the SeikoUSA web site there's no mention of the crown being screw-down so I'm going to take that as a No. I hope the crown+guard on the new series is not as finger-pinchy as the crown on the SSK005 GMT. Manually winding this watch is actually a bit painful.

Yeah they are not screw-down crowns, so not ISO certified as a dive watch. But, I find the crown on the 5KXs very easy to pull and set.

Yup, the 5KX varients traded the screw down crown, for a hacking, manual wind automatic with a display back.

Seiko wants people to move up to the Prospex line if they are actually diving. For me the SKX was in the mid 200 range and these new reaplcements are in the 400-500 range. Personally I rather have the lower price and a non manual wind movement with a screw down crown.

Hello all.... I would like to add important thoughtful information to this thread that others have missed.

    5KX sucks.

Using the SKX lineage to peddle Fossil-like watched while simultaneously diminishing the history of the 5 line bothers me.

I can see it as a diminishing of the SKX line which was not part of the 5 line ( which I agree with,) but not the other way around.

On the other hand in the absence of the SKX, and the need to move up to the Propspex line for a dive style watch vs the number of watches that ever see water under 3 feet deep, I think there are some winners in the 5kx line as entry level pieces. The 42mm GMT line is very nice, and a dive-style mid-size is a rarity, for which my GF does not truly appreciate about her mid-sized skx, while being one of her favorite watches to wear.

Was the 5 line that great to begin with though?
