I wasn’t talking about the Cat in the picture... nor doubting the watch. As I can see Catalina Island right now, and have always loved the design. There is something romantic and utilitarian about the Cat which is odd to have both at the same time. Qantas purchased an ex US bird that had been converted to water drop in Spain. They fly it to AUS to restore it as a tribute to the double sunrise flights during WWII where crews flew 28 hours plus without through Japanese controlled waters to keep communication lines open. Seeing these old birds in flight is quite a sight.
Did the weems have anything specific to make flying easier? I wasn’t saying they are not pilots watches, just from a feature set only 2 really have something unique to flight. It’s not like divers which have to have 2 features to be useful for diving.
Minerva ca. 1938 with Cal. CH 19-9 movement According to the previous owner worn by a pilot from „Deutsche Luftwaffe“ before and during WW2
I have only one but am thoroughly in love with it, a 1920s Leonidas issued to the Royal Yugoslavian Airforce.
@Syrte In case you missed it : https://timeandtidewatches.com/omega-watch-in-dunkirk-worn-by-tom-hardy-story/
I forgot my UG Polerouter Jet! I actually think of it as a dress watch and not having an aviation background, or at least a shared background from the name.
June 1959 - June 2019 celebrating 60 years since the first free (glide) flight of the North American Aviation X-15 hypersonic research rocket plane... And the tuning fork Accutron Astronaut wristwatch these test pilots were wearing... https://moonwatchuniverse.tumblr.com/archive .
My only Air Force issue. And it was intended for the navigator. Air Force issue does not equal pilot.
My Aviation ticker- 145.022. Loved using it to time cross country legs back when I was a student pilot. I almost bought the new IWC Pilot Chronograph, but after trying it on I found it just too thick. It's too bad because it is such a neat watch!
I was about to ask, "How the hell is that Seiko a pilot's watch?" when I realized it was Mad Dog posting it. If a pilot wears it, then by God it's a pilot's watch!
A pilot's pilot watch. Designed for and with the assistance of the international pilots of Pan Am. The airline may be gone but the BLRO lives on!
