why Japanese ones? you live in Japan?

They just looked cool... and they're small so you can have a lot in a folder!

As watch collecting becomes an expensive hobby, one might consider "cheaper" alternatives at the other end of spectrum, a lot cheaper....but with the same enthusiasm hopefully

There's no day I spend on OF without regretting I hadn't bought myself a vintage Speedy 2-3 years ago while it was still affordable; now I feel bad finding out how much precious belly button fluff I've thrown away during the 36 years of my life..

When I was a kid my parents were avid antique collectors. Many weekends spent traveling to different towns to seek out antique shops and flea markets. So, it became a case of, if I can't stop them, join them.

Anyone collect this stuff? I've tried over the years...many of it slips through my fingers...much of my collection seems to have already gone to my wife and kids. I hear it's the root of all evil, but the more I get, the more I look down my nose at others. That's not bad, is it?

That's like my Scotch collection. I can't keep it long enough to call it a collection.

Was out to my house in the burbs today and was able to grab some photos of my collections plus my turntables 👍

GQ & Men's Journal

I used to have a set of silver 12's, but wanted a black set so bad. You have the best of both worlds.

They have been here on OF but here are a bunch - again. Check the list above and tell me if there is something you would like to see especially.

IMO these are as beautiful as vintage watches and cars. I came close to starting down this path when I bought my Waterford 10 years ago. Never went there. Beautiful collection here and what you've posted before.

I used to have another pair of silver ones on top of the two current ones. Kicking myself now for selling them because of the $4,000 plus price tag that 12's are going for now!

I just looked up the price and you're right, $4k..... Wow.... I think I paid $900 for the pair in like 1997. I wonder how much a "vintage set of 12's and a Vestax mixer would fetch nowadays...

As a kid I wrote to NASA to get photos of the Apollo-Skylab, Pioneer 10 & 11, Voyager I & II missions...
Something I kept doing for almost 25 years and received hundreds of photos in the well-known characteristic brown NASA enveloppe. Enter 1992 and the internet made an end to all of that and another 25 years later I just kept those photos (individual portraits, crews, mission images) clearly showing a watch or timepiece in them... Working on several publications, these come in handy as High Resolution photos are scarce on the interwebs!

Stopped Magic the Gathering cards ten years ago but still have more than 10k rares, bilands, spoilers...

Made a huge declutter two years ago by sorting all the cards and keeping 4 of each. All the rest I have handed over to young new players. Was more than 25 thousands of cards I've given away...

Same issue here...::facepalm1::

Nice foil STP! Wasn't that a DCI judge reward? And those BB dual lands are worth a lot these days. If they're alpha or beta, you can buy a nice Speedy with what you have in that picture.

[edit] just noticed they're mostly foreign blackborders. Still, amazingly valuable these days.

I've been collecting wine during my 3 year stay in Italy. I'm disappointed in myself because I'm 4 bottles short of my allotted 500 bottles I can ship back. Mark my words I won't be short on the 20 liters of olive oil I can ship. Almost 200 bottles of Barols, Brunellos, and 7 cases of Amarone.

Half the haul coming up now shipping home tomorrow to beat the heat.

I only collect the zeros and the commas that come with this. Takes up less space.

I do.

Thanks!

So the other day after posting those prints, I walked around and counted all the things hanging on the walls here at the Family Museum. I myself bought 14 of the 54 pieces. I have yet more I could hang but I just don't have the room.

I collect a world of other shit...my main focus is early American decorative arts, mainly Southern.

This weekend while at the flea market I found a killer 19th century sampler from Virginia or NC...traced the girl to Mecklenburg Co Virginia, but she could have studied at a woman's academy in a neighboring county in NC.

Depending on what I uncover, this may go to auction and fund an Ed White...
