Recently, in this forum’s we just found another new uncommon reference which is the reference 14778.
Firstly, It was owned by @nanjingcigaretes , then it was owned by @Holma20.
https://omegaforums.net/threads/rare-jumbo-omega-constellation-14778-cal-551.139055/

These reference (omega 14778) was previously discussed in this forum’s, created by @Shabbaz.
https://omegaforums.net/threads/dis...4778-whats-going-on-here.139097/#post-1902778

As discussed with the knowledgeable people like @mondodec and others, the 14778 is the cal 551 version of the Asian Jumbos sent to the orient in the late 50s and early 60s. The first example that we found was sent to Thailand.

My research found this website confirmed that the omega ref.14778 using the caliber 551.

Now, we all know that the ref. 14778 was existed, confirmed by an Extract from the Archives.

I am so lucky to find the second example in these reference using the same pattern of hour-markers.

It came with the larger case approximately 36.5mm excluding the crown and 38.5mm including the crown.

In my opinion, the case was little polished and my thin decagonal crown should be correct for this reference (compared to the crown in the first example of ref.14778). However, it may be not originally came with this watch because of the darker gold color.

The serial number was 18,171,18x, using the cal.551 (24 jewels).

Please note that the difference in the serial number compared to the known example was only less than 10.
So, I believe that my watch should be produced in November 1961 too.

According to my understanding, the caliber 551 was used in another lyre-shaped lugs with non-date omega such as 14381, 14766, etc.
I believe that the jumbo version used the same cal.551 but adding the Dial Spacer Ring (as marked by red arrows, not sure I call it correctly?) , plus the longer case clamp (as marked by green arrow).

Please be informed that the unusual indices at 12,6,9 o’clock were uncommon.
From my research, it could be found in only one example of the jumbo ref.14777 and 14395.

Thanks @Shabbaz,

@DirtyDozen12, I believe that it should be looks like this? This ring is surely not for this watch.
Maybe I called @Archer to shed some light.

The spacer you show here is typical of the spacers used under the dial on ETA 2824-2, 2836-2, etc. It is not a movement spacer, but used to help lift the dial slightly so that there's no interference with the date indicator.

I have relatively little knowledge of this reference, but your research appears to be very solid, as usual, Teerapat, and it appears to be a lovely example. Congratulations!

I am so lucky to find
I have to think luck has little to do with all of the rare watches you unearth! I always know I'm going to see something new when I see a thread by @qazwsx1
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot @RevZMan123, @Tony C. and @cristos71.

@Archer, your answers improve my knowledge every time.;)

@Olhenry56, I’m so glad that you loved it. I tried my best to gather the information as much as I can, and posted my review in this forum’s.
By the way, for many times I P.M. to ask many of experts here and I received the kindly advice. I would like to say “Thanks You” to all of them.:)
