Hate to admit that I actually like these 1970's Seamaster Cosmic 2000. They have a good size and and a little bit of the 1970's vibe :)
Not all watchmakers like these cases with their inner and outer case and "press in" front and back in gaskets.

I have had these two as project watches, non running, well used with patina for some time.

Found a watchmaker that would fix them and now they are brought back to life again. He asked if he should fresh up the cases and I chose to let him do that.

    Both are ref. 166.130, cal. 1012 from 1972 :)

Let se some of your Cosmic 2000's!

    Here we go !!!

    BEFORE !

Verry bad picture from the seller, thought i bought a silver case, would´nt you ?

    04-s-l1600.jpg

But then AFTER receiving the watch, removing all that black old rubber and buying a new case ring from italy ... MAGIC... it turned to Gold.

And yes i like it because it´s a matt gold tone and not glossy.

And what a surprise it came with the original bracelet and buckle, ok i hoped so, remember the bad picture :)

This one's mine, at least for now. It has the original bezel which does not usually survive. New crown when I had it serviced late last year, not that you'd know as the vulnerable originals appear virtually identical and have also seldom survived. All those "marks" are either on the crystal or reflection. It's a nice watch to wear and the easy-change date of the 1012 movement is a definite plus. I used to wear this a lot but it's been more or less displaced by my 565 Watchco, which I don't feel the need to be so careful with when out of doors.

Mine with Cal 1022. It has a deep blue dial that has seen some spiderweb cracking of the lacquer, but I think it makes the dial quite attractive. It’s certainly no safe queen, but a great Summer wearer.

    I have two...

One gifted to me from my father (silver dial). This had seen some action over the years and was very battered and scratched. The original bracelet was lose and stretched and despite taking all the links out, was too big for my wrist and jangled around. I had case refurbished and the crystal replaced. Unfortunately, on doing so, the dial got damaged (between 6-9 o'clock)...as stated above the cases are hard to open and need someone with skill/experience. I bought a new 1171 bracelet with correct 676 endlinks from Omega. I love this watch, I wear it regularly and it always makes me think of my Dad.

I bought the black dialed variant just before Xmas from OF private sales (thank you @Toishome). It is a really clean, sharp watch.

Looking for some help...I am looking to potentially buy a 1970's Cosmic 2000 38mm (non C case) and the seller states the movement was serviced and is a cal. 565, I'm new to this line but in the short research i've done i thought these had the Cal. 1012? I'm unsure of the Ref.# but it looks just like the 166.128 model. Thanks for any help on this!

    Do you have any photos?
As far as I know Cosmic 2000s have Cal 10xx. I've two 166.128s and indeed they both have cal 1012.
It may be hard for the seller to send a movement photo to confirm, unless one was taken at the time of service. The case is notoriously difficult to open!

No photos but i'll ask. Seems to be a reputable dealer as well. Are the cases hard to open for the non 'c case'? The look like normal cases / casebacks on these models

My two (see photos further up the thread) are non C case and have a non easy-to-open case back (you have to take split stem out and pump air in). There is variation in the case and bracelet designs across the range, but I think that they are all like this to open.

Oh wow interesting...so would equate to more expensive service or a watchmaker not being familiar with the process?

It's not more expensive, just that it's better if someone with experience services them. I've a few watchmakers that I use and one won't touch them.

Thanks for 411! I'll check back in about the piece i'm looking at, worried that it may be a franken watch, I really like it though, ugh.

Some info on the Cosmic 2000 case, the video is a bit over dramatized, but gives you an idea about the somewhat unusual case construction of these watches.

If you can post photos it'd help...

Just had another thought... Are you sure it's a cosmic 2000?
Omega Cosmics (without the 2000) have cal 565 and normal case backs.

There is a separate thread on these

I have one without the outer case that has the lugs. Nice dial though. Never seem to see any cheap with wreaked dial though.
I think this is the one watch I never have attempted to open. The little air pump I have does not make a seal on the case tube.

Some of the vids show the case being pushed apart with a crystal press. The only reason I would open this would be to log the SN. There is not really much reason to clean the movement if it will continue to sit in a drawer.

If I had a do-over I should have gone for complete watches. The incomplete ones were ever so tempting. Such watches did seem like a deal at the time.
