Did they not have a backup plan in place?
I work for a French company and it's been my experience that there is no plan B. They're arrogant enough to think that plan Awill always be 100% successful so no need for a plan B. If plan A fails then it's because the underlings didn't execute the plan properly and someone will need to be blamed.

All the money for Rugby Union players came after my time. Going to work bruised and battered every Monday is not a luxury many young guys playing at the level I did have to endure anymore.
(Funny player’s tendency to get in trouble mid week on nights out didn’t happen when you had to work 5 days a week also)

Speaking of rugby, Canada V Australia just finished in women's rugby 7's, with Canada taking the win and heading to the gold medal match for the first time, against the Kiwis.

Also, Canada's men's basketball team beat Australia earlier today.

Both were come from behind wins after being down in the first half. Now I need to text my wife and give her an update! 😁

Normally don't watch any horse events but the location (gardens of Versailles) used for the cross country was spectacular.

I shot trap and skeet for many years (need to get back to it). It was all about focus and zen- when you started counting, you missed, when you started thinking about your lead, you missed, if you were thinking about anything, you missed. For those with overly active minds, these kinds of sports can be as much about mental health as they are competition.

This is why I like rock climbing. The only difference is that if you lose focus, you have a fall which can have unpleasant results. I'm pretty risk adverse, so the consequences usually aren't too bad.

My lungs hurt, just thinking about it. How can just seven athletes patrol a territory that size! 😵‍💫

Yeah, if I lose focus I’m buying the hot-toddies back at the club house- far less unpleasant.

Unless you have a Dick Cheney-esque accident, but things have to go horribly wrong for that to happen at the skeet range.

I find watching most summer Olympic sports dreadfully dull....even those that I used to do myself, I used to do a lot of sailing and raced a Soling which was the 3 man sailing class in the Olympic at the time. Whilst highly entertaining and demanding to race, as boring as batshit to watch! Some stuff is better to do than watch.
The same thing for the shooting events....fun to do, but not to watch. Particularly the Olympic shooting classes with their pissy little calibres.
My evil sister was a champion swimmer and canoeist, being dragged around to all her events bored me witless.
And my mother sat on various Olympic committees.....still I have little interest!
I find the summer games far to slow I much prefer the winter Olympics, more entertaining as with most of the events eveyrthing happens much faster and when it goes wrong it does so big time.
I have no time for sports that rely on judged results like synchronized tiddilywinks, or whatever the latest nonsensical rubbish that has been included on the program lately. I can appreciate the skills, effort and dedication involved but not need the coma inducing boredom that watching them involves.
In fact I haven't watch so much as a second of the coverage!

I just got back from five days in Paris. My daughter really wanted to go and needed a chaperone so despite my dour grumpy bastard protests I was nominated, seconded and voted in and I'll have to admit enjoyed it. My choice was rugby 7's with Dupont proving he's a class act be it the 15 or 7 man game, the Stade de France was bouncing. I was cheering (a tad outnumbered) for Fiji. Archery was my daughter's choice, we saw the team elimination round were the British boys were given a bit of a tuning by the Taiwan trio but very enjoyable and a far better spectator sport than I was expecting. I'm glad the Turkish boys went on to win bronze as their match against Colombia was my highlight. Last up was her first choice, canoe slalom another good spectator sport and another crowd pleasing French victory but Adam Burgess won silver for GB so happy daughter. Photo of some idiot who thought a leather strap in the sweltering heat was a good idea.

I agree with most of the comments on the opening ceremony but watching it in a small Parisian bar did help, the French people around us found it amusing and patriotic in fairly equal measure.

Well now, after the scatologically enforced delays, neither of today's triathlons disappointed but each couldn't have been different from the other.

The women's race had seemingly stronger currents in the Seine with terrifyingly and treacherously slippery roads ( they were going down like nine-pins at one point)
Obviously, hoping for a GB win but great to see not only a home-nation but home-town-girl win in France's Cassandre Beaugrand.

The men's race was a far more 'classical' affair - better conditions in the Seine and bone dry roads, so no mayhem on the bikes.
After the bike ride, I thought Yee was nailed on to win but NZ's Hayden Wilde seemed to have played an absolute blinder and left the favourite Yee in his wake on the run.
Talk about heartbreak for Wilde when, after looking like he was completely out of it and seemingly from nowhere, Yee passed Wilde in the last few yards of the race.

What a genuinely great pair of races.

Let's hope GB can repeat the feat in the mixed triathlon relay.....(but France may be the favourites there)

The crowds have been truly amazing (even better than London, which had set the bench mark) and Paris looked fantastic in the sunshine - makes me hanker for a visit - which I guess was the organiser's idea in the first place!

Triathlon today. Fantastic running by the main contenders. The women's event was a cracker too. Hoping to watch the canoeing and BMX later.

I’m not big on the Olympics but do like the boxing. Seems they are airing many of the matches on Telemundo in the US so I end up streaming them or use a boxing internet site.

Didn’t they add long pants? I heard people complaining about that. Not me of course, I am a spiritual being and am not distracted by such things.

Fantastic mixed doubles tennis match between Fritz/Gauff and FAA/ Dabrowski. Came down to a 10 point match tiebreak, with the Canadians coming from behind to take it. Onto the semi's and playing for medals now!

Felix had a great day - beat Medvedev for the first time earlier, so moves into the quarters.

BMX freestyle today has finally triggered my dad hormone - I want to charge into the Place de la Concorde shouting "Stop right now, you could be killed! I'm saying this for your own good. And don't ever let your mother find out."
I still enjoyed it though. These dudes are soaring higher than my house, while holding a clown cycle (often in one hand), and that's not snow way down there. Awe-inspiring courage, powerful movement, and graceful moves.
