The great Aqua Terra Debate

I don't want to offend anyone, but the current Aqua Terra has nothing to do with its predecessors other than the name.

Once again, Omega wasted a chance to create another icon in their collection. The Speedmaster is one of the most famous watches in the world, but unfortunately it is spoiled by too many LEs.

If they had left the Aqua Terra as it was with the Skyfall / Spectre design and only carefully adapted it with new technology, they would have had great potential to make it another icon of the watch industry. The classic Aqua Terra together with the outstanding new movements could stand up to any DJ or Explorer. I would even go so far as to say that it is superior.

But such considerations do not seem to exist at Omega.

I have this newer version of Aqua Terra and I am very satisfied with it. Its my daily watch, its modest, goes under radar, but technically very good watch. This new AT was the first AT model I saw, I was not aware of older versions (yes now I am aware), so maybe thats why I do not understand these vertical stripes vs horizontal stripes issue. I like vertical stripes (same like on Nautilus). Date on 3 or 6 I have also no preference, I take it as it is. And this crown thing on new vs old does not bother me really. So for average Joe like me its very good watch, can not complain really, thats why I bought it from Boutique in München last year.
Blue lume is cool but it could be more of that on hands.

38mm for me. It’s my go to travel watch. That jumping hour hand is a dream when changing time zones. Without a bezel, 41 would be way too big for my taste.

Posted before but I love it. Temp on different strap. The Copacabana stripes.

I’d been looking for a two tone combination for a couple of yrs but always found the typical offerings in the market to be very blingy. Even the steel offering with bezel / crown in gold seemed too much...

Then i saw these variants in the AT range and i had to have them. Just the right amount of two tone colour for me!!

I have the latest version of the Aqua Terra, 41mm, black dial and I could almost write a love letter for this watch. I would buy it again and again and in fact I thought about getting another one in a different color. It's my "GADA" watch and it always looks amazing. After more than 2 years of ownership I do miss it when I am not wearing it and I still admire its beauty. It is an elegant yet capable masterpiece. It think it represents modern OMEGA at its best, regardless of the reference.

I just can't get over the 38mm AT blue dial as my daily. Can't keep it off my wrist. There's something intangible about some watches and the AT has it for me. Mind you, I'm coming from a 36mm Datejust, the104060 Sub, and a FOIS Speedy, all of which I still have. The AT "speaks to me" as my Datejust did when gifted to me by my wife 25 years ago.

Rather than open a new thread I thought I would build on this one.

I'm getting my first modern Omega and it has to be a blue aqua terra (been in love for aaages).

However, I am so stuck between these two, I love both for very different reasons.

The Skyfall and the METAS, both have their pros and cons and price points.

I think what will help me decide is knowing which is the easiest to sell.

Call me a pessimist but you never know what life will throw your way down the road, and knowing there is a potential buyer for your watch would help make me feel more confident in getting it.

What do you people think, which would be the easiest to move if you needed to?

I traded mine in for $2600, AD sold it for $3999 in a day or two. Regret this more than selling my 1995 GMT master purchased new when I was a teenager.

@Awetaylor if it helps when I was looking for a Skyfall a year or so ago they were few and far between so fetched a higher price. Not sure on the market for them now but thought this info might be useful.

That is my working hypothesis as well, they sell for less than the METAS, thanks @DJG2645

I guess it is not so much about what something is worth, rather are there more buyers for it

Thanks for this.

Just ordered the current AT (as well as a quartz daily) and was second-guessing not tracking down a Skyfall.

Side-by-side I do really prefer the current.

Only too bad can't refer to it by a cool nickname.

I wanted a blue dial steel on steel watch as well, but I opted for the less expensive option.

the dial is actually "sunburst", but it's very hard to capture ... still, straight lugs with blue dial? 🥰

heritage wise, is the aqua terra line considered much more junior to the Seamasters, Speedies and Connies?

I know this watch seems to have received quite controversial opinions, but I personally adore it and it is my ultimate aqua terra.
