Back to the original post, if I were the owner I’d be looking to see if the restaurant’s public liability insurance covers him as I know my brothers restaurant in Australia has had its insurance cover some thefts and losses over the years. That’s probably something that varies a lot by country I guess.

I looked it up, the restaurant had this sign in window. It is even in Australian.

I think this absolves them of liability .

Army vet here who was an Expert marksman and Training NCO who ran rifle ranges for people to qualify annually. I am not afriad of or unfamiliar with guns.

No civilian should have an AR15 or similar weapon.

No one under 25 should own a weapon.

The US constitution allows firearms for a well armed militia, which was at the time when the US did not have a standing army. It's not for self-protection or mob rule.

Households with guns are twice as likely to suffer a gun related shooting and 6 times as likely to have a gun related suicide as non-gun owning households.

States with strong gun rules are being over taken by people allowed to cross state lines to purchase a weapon in a state with lax laws, as in the recent Chicago shooting. A national law is needed.

Gun ownership in America is not about freedom and liberty; it's about making money.

This is the worst thread on OF.

And that sums it up. Period. And now: Action.

If you believe that, then I have some land for sale in the Everglades. And yes, I understand Spanish.

In every mass shooting in the last two years, armed citizens could have stopped it quickly and actually prevented a "shooting" from turning into a mass shooting. Income inequality has nothing to do with it. Mental health has almost nothing to do with it (most people with mental health issues are not violent mass shooters)...and if you want to reduce violence, you don't run from it and cower, you confront it head on.

And for every mass shooting cut short there could have been 100 more shootings because people happened to be carrying when they lost their temper.

I agree. You hit someone with a BarcaLounger and they’re gonna go down hard.

Justice Scalia says "arms" is anything used as a weapon that's small enough to pick up.

I see you are staff. Excellent. I’ve cancelled my automatic renewal of support, and would appreciate it if you’d delete my account. It’s not a function made available to end users.

1500 posts & 2 years is enough. This dumpster fire is just shy of large enough to make me ditch watches altogether.

Thanks and goodbye.

Don't leave. We have more in common than not. I believe our love of family and country is the same, as well as our outrage at the misuse of firearms.

After the umpteenth serious robbery on a crowded terrace, I have decided to be very reluctant wearing expensive watches - especially Rolex - when I go out or if I go into the city at all.
It is also discouraged by the police because of this new
phenomenon which is maybe caused by corona (more home workers so less home roberies).

I grew up in the city. So I can estimate the risks of the city well. I've even been a criminal defense attorney. So I think I can really say that it is really no longer responsible.

Newspaper articles regularly appear about brutal robberies (see link and picture), which are specifically aimed at watch wearers.

It's a pity, but so be it. Somehow it's not that weird. If I sit on a full terrace with 10k openly on the table, you won't be surprised if you get robbed. Unfortunately that is the world we live in.

It does raise the question of whether I should not adjust my collection. For I have no use for watches that collect dust.

In Portland (and Seattle apparently), we're more apt to have our catalytic convertor stolen than our watch. Pretty frickin annoying. I wouldn't shoot the guys but I'd sure like to beat on them for awhile.

If you are wearing a suit or go to a posh restaurant with a Rolex, unfortunately the threat level rises considerably. I go to the office by public transport with a polo shirt, shorts etc and nobody even bothers to look at my Zenith or whatever else is on my wrist.

Truly. I’ve walked away from OF before and this thread makes me regret coming back.

I think this has run its course at this point and is just getting even more boring now.
