I say, effective immediately, we do away with roping pandas into dial descriptions. Those poor guys are already endangered and shouldn't have to deal with further undo stress!

Henceforth, white dial with black sub dials will be named: Lemur Dial

Black dial with white sub dials will now be known as: Orca Dial

Very nice @BruceTheManLee! I really like this 116500LN (but in black, perhaps, although I like both).

So after a few months have passed, what's the opinion of the veterans on the new Cosmograph Daytona? Both in image/quality and perhaps in long-term valuation?

They're easier to find now but it's still around 16K EUR in Europe. I wouldn't mind picking up one if it would hold its value well (and is reliable), but I'm not a collector and like to have just one or two good watches (that I wear daily).

Not looking to make money with it at all, just enjoy it, but I wouldn't like selling it in five years for 50% of what it costs now.
(maybe it makes sense to create a new thread instead of using Bruce's - please let me know if that is best. thx)

I still love the 116500LN. It is my daily watch that I wear to work for the most part. Its a svelte watch that will fit nicely under shirt cuff. I rotate over the weekend with my SD4K and BLNR

Accuracy has been consistently +2 seconds per day

I do not believe SS Daytonas lose value IF you buy them at MSRP. Definitely over time you will retain MSRP or increase. See the Zenith versions and the 116520. Now if you buy it at 16k EUR, that's a differently story. Your time horizon is much longer, however I do not think you will lose 50% but you will lose at 16k EUR

I like it so much I'm on the list for the Black dial version as well

I just saw the Omega Speedy Racing black and white in the Vancouver OB...it is very nice has great technology enable bezel, Metas, date, legibility etc...but after having seen the Daytona LN a few months back and now Speedy Racing...my POV is that the Daytona LN just looks more coherent from a design perspective. I think the Speedy Racing might be an interesting option for someone with big wrists and who wants to avoid unnecessary "attention" with the Daytona.

On a final note I would just say that I think +2yr AD waiting lists for the Daytona LN might be a bit over the top?...surely during Basel 2018 and Basel 2019 Rolex will launch something new in their SS sports watch range that will reduce the demand for the Daytona....a Coke bezel SS GMT for example would suddenly become the "hot thing" to have . Seriously, I would not bother putting my name on a wait list longer than 12 months for the Daytona LN at this stage.

i'm not sure about that Omega. The sub-dials seem to be extremely far apart. Looks odd.

I know movement is different but the spacing of the sub-dials is much better on the Moonwatch

Not really, I'm pretty quick witted. The pics however took a bit of time to find the right ones that made me chuckle. It will be a thing...I just know it!

I think this is a good assessment. By Rolex intentionally slow dripping the supply into stores, it's pretty well ensured anyone picking them up at MRSP will retain what they paid on the flip. I'm guessing the 116500 will sustain itself on the secondary market at around $2k above retail well into the future. Last time I took a quick look, pricing on average seemed to be in the $15k-$16k USD range. So, my guess is that the price will drop a little bit more over the next couple of years but not a lot.

For a panda themed motorsport watch this LE Autavia might be an interesting option. I do think Tag-Heuer have a stronger association with F1...so for F1 fans this might have emotional pull and this LE was designed with input from Jack Heuer.

I have not tried the current non LE Autavia on the wrist, but it does look thick...I would not wear this LE Autavia with a suit, but perhaps with a black racing strap it could work well with a blazer...I do think the beads of rice bracelet is super cool, but it might be a bit too blingy for me.

Still dreaming of a more nostalgic update - in the vain of the 6263. Excuse the horrible photoshop skills...

The new white gold Daytona on oyster flex is very close imo. I think of it as a modern 6263 small red.

congrats sir! looks great. when these first came out i thought i preferred the black dial. i've since come around and think the white dial is the better choice for this reference. i had a chance to try it on early this yr at a grey dealer but couldn't see myself paying above retail. i called the local AD at the time and they said the wait list was 2 yrs! i pretty much put it out of mind after. it is now starting to creep back... wear in good health!

I fought this. I had my card in hand, it was a struggle, but I won. No 116500LN. It's brilliant tho, so congrats!

I found out I really care about the date, and Glidelock and not paying 5K premium. Now one of the three, or maybe two could have resulted in failure, but all three were against my current plan.

So it was good, but also bad, because these Daytona are going to become very respected as years go by. Maybe one day I'll manage to time a move correctly and get something as iconic at MSRP.
