·Hi All
Thanks for all the advice re the "reduced" automatic Speedmaster. I managed to track down a nice 3510.50 and am delighted with it.
Sorry no pics of mine (phone is broken) but here's a stock photo for you:
I know some of you are gonna say 1.) it's not a REAL Speedmaster and 2.) it has THAT (modular / nightmare) movement but the size is perfect for me -- and I'm not a small bloke, either.
In fact I like it so much I'm considering trading up for a the later version, ref. 3539.50 as it has 1.) a less cluttered dial and 2.) better WR -- this feature being important for me as I'm a fly fisherman and swimmer. If anyone in the UK has one for sale drop me a PM (is that allowed? Mods will know.)
I think the 3510.50 was made 1988 - 2006 and the 3539.50 was 2006-2009 but am often wrong about such things. And mine is, I think, 1999 -- so SL rather than tritium. Arguably less attractive than nicely aged lume but it sure glows a lot better and besides I have plenty of vintage watches if I want to scratch that itch. For a daily wearer I'd rather have working lume than a pretty face!
Anyway, thanks again OF.
