I just wanted to say thanks to you all for your help, knowledge and the stimulation of learning about watches through OF.

I came here late. I had no history with watches, apart from drooling outside Austin Kaye’s Covent Garden window over watches I never expected to be able to afford.

I wore a pocket watch, a present from my mum on qualifying as a criminal defence lawyer but, reliant on legal aid and with family commitments my focus was on Seiko,Pulsar and Lorus until I discovered eBay, long after everyone else.

After acquiring two Oris BCPDs, I bought my first Omega, then my second ….

.. and on OF discovered Eterna, Hamilton, Longines (for which I have a developing love) hummers and others.

Happily ensconced in the late 50s/60s, @wilderbeast and subsequently, @kaplan took me down the esoteric 70s C case road.

I hope I’m not going anywhere but I have really enjoyed OF and thought that a thank you is in order.

I second that 👍

Likewise. I came here looking for information on Universal Geneve chronographs and found generous members who helped me learn a lot of the ropes when looking at civilian watches, in particular when it comes to assessing the condition and originality of dial, case and movement. I realized some people actually knew to identify unmarked vintage chronograph movements just by looking at them— that set the bar very high for a newbie.

Many thanks indeed to OF and the whole team.

I can only agree, this place has been an amazing place to learn, with welcoming and knowledgeable people all around.

I first stumbled across OF when I was trying to find out more about my UG White Shadow, then I kept returning to learn more about Longines UltraChrons and Zenith Respirators... and then, of course, Omegas started growing on my mind. Here again, OF helped "sharpen my senses" to the multitude of more-or-less nefarious things that can be wrong with a watch, redials, the MOY-test, wear & polish on the case and lugs, dating a watch by serial number, how to find reference numbers and research the particulars of a certain model... thereby allowing me to check if the watch offered is original & plausible.

Vintage watches were a huge interest of mine for some time before, but I have really learned a lot here. And I wouldn't have been able to step into the (sometimes shark-infested) waters that is vintage Omega without the wealth of info on this board. Or well, I could have stepped in, but likely into poo.

So, thanks OF! And to the team that makes it happen.

Thanks Indeed !
To Spruce and Others above to show the way.
To the OF members who share their knowledge in such an open way.
To OF mods of course who have built this place and who keeps making it a nice and warm one to come by and spend time.

I also joined fairly recently just a year after acquiring my first vintage watch : a nice constellation bought on C24 and checked through Desmond's blog. After a while looking for information on the web, I found this forum and discovered the frontiers of the vintage watch realm were ... beyond anything I imagined.

And having passionate people, sharing and articulating their thoughts in a way that newbies like me could understand was ... well very much appreciated. As most of us, I appreciate being able to grow and learn, I also appreciate the fact that I could trust and reach out to its members for better judgment and for making deals. Having got confidence in this welcoming place and dear members, I've ended up buying more than 30 watches to OF members and found all of those deals very pleasing (Consolidation is well overdue by now).

I am still not to the point where I can really contribute with real knowledge but who knows this could come ... in a decade 😀

Along the way, I also appreciate the different characters of OF members and this diversity is also very fun.

I'm not English but this feels like my local pub to me 😀

Cheers & Thanks OF

hear hear!

I originally registered to buy a gorgeous early Glycine Airman from @pdxleaf, who probably, reasonably, was skeptical with my interest considering I was a freshly registered user. Since then, I've found OF to be one of the most pleasant communities on the web, reminiscent of those of the Web1 era.

I just passed my first year here, I know this as my OF sub auto-renewed last month. This place has been great for meeting friends and making my savings account much much lower. But my wrist looks damn good doing it.

Thanks to everyone for their knowledge, the admins for keeping the lights on, and the mods for their unending work dealing with this monkey house.

Hello, my name is Joe, and I'm an OF member. I've been an OF member for 6 years. My previous interests included stamp collecting and saving for retirement. My first foray into the hobby was the 2017 Seamaster 300 Trilogy, the rest is [an expensive] history, despite numerous interventions by my wife.

Cheers and thanks to all the OF founding members, regular contributing members, and mods!

I hate you all... especially those who have all the watches I'd like to own, and to buy at a ridiculous cheap price! :whipped:

PS: there are exceptions... all the pets from this thread 🥰🥰🥰

Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit 😁😁

It''s the Forum denizens like you Spruce (I could go on and on) that make the Forum worthwhile.

Well, it's also the expert moderation staff who know just how to finesse moderation correctly along with the back room mechanics that makes the Forum easy to operate.

As they say here in Texas, I "didn't know come here from sic 'em" when I joined. I'm just a mite better equipped to navigate the mine field that is vintage watches at this point, but I'm far better off because of the membership here and their Forum contributions.

Thanks Bryan. I wanted to make it clear in my initial post that the knowledge and fellowship I found and enjoy on OF was, as you say, the contribution of the founding fathers (in an entirely non-gender way @Syrte) and the contributions and friendships of the members which make this a very special forum.
