Not so silly:
Once I installed an industrial machine with a placebo air pressure regulator, as the production operators wouldn't stop fiddling with it.......it was at the front where they could easily see it.
It only operated their blow down hose, the regulator that actually controlled the air pressure to the machine was hidden.
It would amuse me when they'd proudly tell me how much better the machine was running after they had "adjusted" it
