It feels like every time an unsupervised American tries Vegemite, they just toss a couple of tablespoon on plain toast. Going in dry, NO butter... nothing. It's an accessory to butter or cheese, but they're using it like Nutella. 🤢

Its most annoying when they refuse to try it at, I don't get entertained by either outcome and pretend to get deeply offended like they've burned our flag to try to guilt them into doing it.

It's their loss if they don't want to try our baked brewery sludge. More Cheesymite scrolls for me.

The cheesymite scrolls are the best use of it ever for sure. There's a local bakery near me that does them fresh with really chewy soft bread, it's incredibly good. If that was most foreigners' first Vegemite exposure we'd be taking over the world with our salty axle grease.

Putting it just on toast or bread is like raw-dogging Wasabi or mustard or something, even if you like it, it needs a vehicle for that flavour, and given how much our American friends love cheese on bread in all of its forms, it would be a massive winner.

Well I'm probably the exception as an Aussie, but we didn't keep Vegamite in the house as a kid,
I don't know why, just didn't! As a result I grew up without the habit. Maybe some one in the family was allergic to it. No one left to ask now.

But may years later I had to repair a machine for a packaging contracting company, The machine was used to pack the stuff into those little single serve blister packs that are used in motels etc. Anyway I ended up covered in the foul muck, from arsehole to breakfast and had a bad allergic skin reaction to it. I can only assume that it's the strain of yeast used, as I use yeast in baking all the time with no ill effect.
They use the by product from the CUB brewery to make the stuff, and I do get a little asthmatic if I drink any of their beers, yet other brands of beer give me no trouble.

Just damned odd really.....I just avoid the pig swill beers and any spread that looks like old axle grease!

I always tell my wife that if you have to put something on so thinly that you can barely taste it, it's just not good...
