I know they need to price it so that it has a certain cachet of quality, but $150 seems high for what it is

for the $150 why not go for a 2nd or 3rd tier 1960ies auto watch - or for something Russian?... way cooler imho

but to each its own I guess ...

I wouldn't accept either the Tissot or Swatch with the feature, as a prize. A gift? Maybe! So I didn't offend the giver. But a prize? No way!

All I need now is for someone to tell me that Omega is considering a polyoxymethylene co-axial escapement for a new line of Speedmasters. Actually...👎

Besides the famous Ingersoll dollar watches, didn't Smiths sell £1 pocket watches throughout the UK sometime last century? In Australia I think that same Smiths watch was referred to as a Farmer watch (because you can dig them up anywhere?).

Damnit, now you made me realize, I don't know where my pocket-rule is.
Is that a Pocket Versalog? It looks like a full size.

Swatch watches are just meant to be fun..nothing serious. When it breaks, you throw them away. I don't think Swatch watches are that popular to Americans but to the international people, they seem to love them.

Same as the Apple watch imho, throw away I mean. Cheap often means popular because it is exactly that: cheap. In regards to swatch, there is no price on this good earth that would make a Swatch attractive to me. They are absolutely without value for me. I don't know why, and it sounds harsh, but that's the way I feel. Maybe it's time for a visit to an AD for some long overdue watch therapy? 🤨

I was at Melbourne airport a few months ago and I was the only person looking at expensive watches and had the service staff to myself while the Swatch kiosk was full of young people, mostly Chinese and Japanese for hours whilst the flight was delayed. Then in Hawaii the Swatch shop had several people in it each time I went past. Swatch is still popular to its demographic ( not sure what that is besides young)

Yea the Brisbane CBD Swatch Shop is often remarkably full, I've actually never been in myself but its in a great location and certainly gets a lot of traffic.

I thought about buying a couple for fun to work out in or run. I would only buy the plastic ones though.

I don't understand all of the hate

I'm a gen x guy. Grew up in the 80's when Swatch came out. They marketed to us young people, in their teens and very early twenties. Not to my father in his forties.

This watch is the same. It's not marketed to Architects or Doctors. It's aimed at young people who can't afford any better. It's just a disposable watch.

Seems as though the "generation X" element, with their love of throw away Swatch watches, have unwittingly helped build a foundation for the rebirth of the Swiss watch industry. For this, those of us that don't buy Swatch, thank you!

Honestly I think you might be reading into it all a bit too much, its just a cheap watch that looks cool.

My son is ten. He goes to the pool and the beach and he rides horses and picks at his nose...a Swatch is a great watch for him to have. One day he will graduate, or marry or get out of the closet or perhaps be released from jail....maybe then a Swatch won't quite cut it.

Like everything now days there is such a vast degree of quality. Be it pens, knives, tools, cars and even wines there is cheap, average and quality. It's the way of the consumer now days hundreds of brands makes and price points.

No use just picking one cheap watch to have a go at. Why not have a go at
