·The key with compressors is the larger size in 38-42mm. The 36mm flavor imo is underwhelming.
Gonna disagree here. The 36mm IMO is the better size. It wears well on both smaller and larger wrists. My pick is the Wittnauer. I had a really good one that I sold to a friend. Now working on restoring this one -

I will be selling this one once it returns from service, but I think at your budget you'll be looking at a vintage 36mm or one of the newer Longines Legend Divers - both of which are very cool options!

Just an FYI anyone here looking into this one the caseback on this is for a lld 7150 not a 7042. How do I know you ask? Nibbled the bait saw the hook swam away to live another day!

Good to know, and I am not chasing that watch, but if that is the only flaw (and yes I see the hands, and who knows what else is at issue), based on recent sales and asking prices for 7042's Vesper's seems to be solidly in the ball park and probably at the low end of the range. Another online dealer is asking almost twice that for his.

Personally I love the Super Compressor case design.... I have some in Single crown Super Compressors at about 36 mm in diameter and the more common Dual crown in 36 , 39 and 42 mm....... I have to say the 36 mm size is quite nice and I have a 8 inch wrist....
'You really cant go wrong with these as long as the inner bezel rotates... and crystal is not total basket case...
