If you are willing to go used, there are all sorts of the older model Hamilton Khaki field watches in the $200 range on ebay.

Otherwise what about the Bulova Hack at $316?

I was gifted this Hamilton and I’m absolutely in love with it! It’s my first and only field watch.

For the earlier suggestion about the Vostoks. Your are right great watches on the cheap. Just not the field watch look I’m looking for.

I’m enjoying the thread but the OP asked for suggestions under $200 USD and what I don’t really understand is why half the posts suggest watches well in excess of that figure 🤦

We are all enablers here- I want a $200 watch (but I really want a Seamaster 300 so please convince me I need it).
Back to Seiko 5!

Todd Snyder Military Timex .. I beat the crap out of mine. Honestly for under 200 bucks it’s hard to beat Timex.

I cant figure out what goes on with the compass headings. The specs don't talk about it.
My first thought was using the watch face as a compass:

But... no, the headings don’t line up. Their positions are more accurate for the Southern Hemisphere, but still not correct for the sun method. I have found reviews from people saying the compass is purely decoration with no function.

Field watches continue to grow in popularity and with good reasons. Durable, casual and stylish.
I really like my Timex. It definitely plays the part in California State Parks Uniform.

I am think about adding the Seiko SNZG15

The price is right at about $130.00 US but the accuracy is giving me pause. +- 30sec a day?
I like the styling and the size. A larger watch with 22mm between the lugs. Manly yes?
This watch is kind of a knock off of the Hamilton Khaki, which I love, but I am not going to drop that kind of money for a watch that is going to take a serious licking at work.

Open to alternatives, and as always, just some cool wrist shots.
Seiko massively under rates thier accuracy. I’m my household there are 4 watches with that movement, ( 2 are mine 2 are FooGirls) 3 SKX 007,009 and the mid size, as well as the same SNZ your looking at. My father and my best friend also have SKX’s. All keep great time except for my fathers which I had regulated by a seiko guy in Costa Mesa and it’s right on.


The SNZ can be a tad large and wears a little larger then a speedy. FooGirl wears it to work everyday banging around her supermarkets checking for health, food safety, and compliance. So it sees it’s fair share of knocking around and proudly wears scars like any Seiko should.

the SNZ and the SKX are classic for a reason and those movements are bullet proof and regardless of Seikos stated ratings keep good time.

My wife wears this daily for work- she works in a bakery so it gets beaten to death on metal sinks, equipment, dunked in sinks and scrubbed to get icing off- it’s a workhorse

These are good, but a tad small and need to be on a masculine strap to work.

Am surprised it's page two and no one has mentioned a Speedmaster yet.

$200 really,, that's a pond I don't case a line in often or at all 😉 so mine was $1200 so technically it had a $200 in there somewhere.

My field watch is a TCM orienteering with a solar compass.

If the Speedmaster had a year and decade counter, it would be ideal for measuring soil erosion- but it falls short for this type of work.
Plus, you can’t take it in the pool. ::stirthepot::
