Stupid question.
Do you guys think these hands are going to hold up. They look like they could fall off.

I'm actually looking at buying this

The hands are in rough shape for sure... they also don't seem to match the condition of the rest of the watch.

Does that look like a fake dial to anyone else?

Lack of details. I know, I posted without double checking.

1984 ROLEX 16800 Submariner Excellent Patina Original Dial/hands
Serial - 8453xxx

Hope that helps. I really appreciate the help.

The hands have a little corrosion on them. How does that make you think they're about to fall off? If your wife's thighs get a little cellulite on them, does that make you think her legs are about to fall off? Geezus!

My first concern was the hands in rough shape.
2. Generally wanted to see what the pro's think.

OMEGA FORUM - When I first started here I really thought people were a little too difficult to deal with. I have to say the last 8/9 times I asked for advise, you guys have HELPED ME OUT so much. I can't even begin to repay the favor.

I'm wondering if it is a service dial. There is just such a big difference between the color of lume on dial and hands; more than I would expect. The outer rim of the bezel also seems very badly polished.

I noticed the bezel also.
The dial isn't a complete match so I also agree. It does look like service.
How bad does that hit the value?

Don't worry about repaying us. At some point in the future, when the current generation of Jedi are gone, you'll need to sit on the council and assist n00bs the way you were helped. Sort of a Horological Pay It Forward thing.

Whoever replaces me, filling the "Sarcastic" slot, is going to have a lot of fun. 😜

You can easily repay any favours quite easily , buy the watch & forward onto me . I will happily bare the burden of wearing the watch & tell everyone that someone gifted this to me as a repaid favour .

BEAR the burden. Do us a favor and don't post photos of you being BARE while wearing a watch. 😲 🤦

EDIT: unless you're a Victoria's Secret model, former Playboy Centerfold, or Hawaiian Tropic spokes-girl. Then, by all mean, post nekkid pictures of yourself wearing a watch. Lots of them!

Guys where am I price wise.
My last quick purchase was a GMT I flipped and made money on. My idea would be to wear this for a while and possibly flip it.
Am I in the 3-4 we don't know enough about it range
4-6 Sub range
6-8 Vintage sub worth the cost.

I'm not an expert on 16800s, but I seem to recall an issue with a batch of hands from the factory that had corrosion issues on these. They are usually replaced at time of service, if by Rolex. Might search around for that a bit.

There is something very ironic about a user called @Hands90 started a thread about hands.
This would have never dawned on me

I'd say Rolex has very nice hands.
The best hands I've ever had was on the SMC 300 CoAxial. The non spector 300. Those hands are AMAZING
The speedy hands are not nice at all but are easily the quickest to read. I can read my speedy so much quicker then all my other watches.

Watch looks all original to me. Rolex handsets often degrade faster than dials. Lume pip on bezel has patina similar to dial, which is quite attractive. LA Watch Works could put a nice set of color-matched hands on that. If you're just going to flip it, you need to do your own price research.

I'm pulling out of this one. Too many people raise issues. It's at around 5k
