Stolen Watches !!!

I just saw this today. Pretty crazy.

I have a watch in transit with DHL that I’m starting to think might have been lost by the carrier or stolen by an employee. Package was supposed to be delivered Monday. Tracking number updated to say it was not delivered because I was not home, even though I was home and there are clear instructions on the call box at the front of my building how to contact individual units. I called DHL immediately to add the instructions to the tracking number. The same thing happened the next day - package was not delivered because I was “not home”, even though I was and the driver had instructions how to contact me. I’ve called DHL every day since then (Tuesday through Friday), have escalated the case to management twice, and every time I was assured it would be delivered the next day.

The tracking number hasn’t updated since that failed delivery attempt on Tuesday I’m very frustrated at this point and have been thinking the past few days that the package is likely lost or stolen.

I would think theft of a watch (watches) specifically would be more likely at a distribution hub where they possibly x-ray the packages and know what’s inside. Once the driver has it (unless the box is return postmarked with a watch company or watchmaker) the driver has no clue what’s in it. We have had many packages to be delivered at work, returned to the shipper as undeliverable over the last several months. We have a screening facility that is manned and there is always people there during regular business hours. But I was told by a UPS rep that because of the massive surge in residential delivered lately, if the driver encounters the slightest pebble in the delivery process (like having to wait in line at a screening facility or ring a bell and wait for a signature), they move on to the next delivery and throw the package back in the truck- three times and it goes back.

Few weeks back, my Chronoscope came back from service via FedEx. The box was slightly open at the end and looked re taped. I did not sign till I was sure the watch was there.

This watch came from abroad, so it might have had a customs form attached indicating what was inside.

It was a 14700 I mostly bought for the case, and it only cost me a couple hundred bucks. But if the custom form said “Omega Watch” for an employee to see...

Was the parcel only insured for 50€ or what’s the reason for the low refund? I know the usual options with DHL in Germany are insurances of 50€, 500€ or 2500€.

I noticed a huge decline in reliability with DHL when the Corona crisis started. Sure, more parcels were being sent so I‘m not complaining about longer transit times, but I‘ve lost 2 parcels and 2 registered letters in the last 3 month. One of each arrived resealed and empty, but since I live on the 4th floor and postmen here are not required / allowed to pass the front door anymore, they usually just pretend I signed and put the parcel on floor. Right in the hallway, only one step in. Often without closing the door afterwards.
Luckily, none of those parcels were stolen so far but with the two resealed and empty shipments, it was a PITA to claim money back, as DHL initially stated that I had apparently personally accepted the shipment.
I‘ve now changed to a different carrier, with the exception of international shipments, which, for some reason, still works a treat and is usually quicker than anything I‘m sending nationally.

At the start of COVID delivery drivers just asked for my name, next they just checked to see if someone was home; lately parcels have just been left by the door, or in the postbox 🙁. Luckily nothing’s gone missing so far

The parcel world is at breaking point at the moment so maybe it's a mistake?

Just had five watches, including a Sea Dweller, delivered on Friday and it was a signature required package but we don't get to sign.
As long as the postie puts it in your hand he signs off on it so that we don't put virus spores on his machine.
If he can't deliver it, back to the local PO to wait for collection.

Had packages that came from Vietnam and Singapore. Vietnam(2 packages) through DHL took only 5 days and Singapore through Singapore Post took almost a month but came. One in Japan thru Fedex went around the world from Japan to Honolulu to Texas to New Jersey.Original expected date was the 12 now Monday. Don't understand. Is this route normal?

Japan has had some serious shipping problems lately. A couple items I’ve ordered through the ‘bay are on the slow boat across the pacific because their airmail system was paralyzed.

No carrier that I am aware of has been getting signatures on parcels since the pandemic started. They all have notices to that effect on their web sites, so none of this should be a surprise.

But not so much as a knock at the door and then stand there 6 feet away and wait for someone to come out? The whole point of shipping Fedex or insured/signature is to verify receipt.

I think a lot of airmail systems are paralysed with international flights at less then 10%. A good percentage of the air cans in every plane from one country to another are usually what carries mail from one country to another.
Basically there is not enough cargo planes in the world to make up the loss.
😗 Know planes are getting converted as I type by many airline companies as no money in having planes sitting or flying them with a top deck of empty seats

Im in the Philippines.

Had various watch shipments from USA, Europe and Asia (even locally) during the pandemic (last three months or so). Two by FedEx, Two by DHL, One by UPS and one local. So far, all arrived safely. All with signature.

Waiting on two more shipments from Europe.

Here is the FedEx statement:

COVID-19: Signature Required Suspension

Temporarily suspended for most deliveries in Canada and the U.S. A physical signature is not required for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground shipments except when an adult signature is required.

I would expect the parcel to be treated as if it had no signature, and yes that means it's dropped at the door and the driver walks away.

Keep in mind that some carriers do this with signature parcels even in "normal" times, so I suppose I have come to expect that they will only do the minimum. I make a point of developing some type of relationship with the people who deliver things to me. It's more difficult now when the people are changing all the time due to the schedules and trying to keep up with demand, but for the most part I still know the people who make all the deliveries...
