I would love to have a 1966 vintage speedy, but the thought of going down that rabbit hole is daunting. So I have four current ones, with the current big 3 represented.
The even slightly older Speedmasters are definitely daunting to shop for. The 145.022 I went with was as much as a convenience than a desire at first. Plenty of watches to shop for back then. Soon, I decided I liked the older dial, and fell in love with the bezel, and then decided I definitely wanted a plain case back. Now, I don't know if I have the wherewithal to shop for vintage watches.

€ 3500,- seems a fair price. But i think price should not be your guide here, for a first vintage Speedmaster. Nice Dutch connection maybe with the engraving but overall not a very atractive -69 for me.

i think all about the facts was analyzed, but there is one thing about the
vintage Speedmaster references

if we look for example for a 145.022-69 (with or without DON) and we
would be able to put 20 different ones on a table, it is possible to sort
them in a range from wich one is the most desirable to the most unpopular

it depends of course from condition, but

dial, lume and lume colour makes the difference

it is like if you look at 20 hamsters - there will be one ore perhabs two or three
that touches your heart more than the other ones

Does this speak to you at this price. Some great things on this piece but is it harmonious?

I see no issues at first glance. Is the dial washed? The hands and lume on the dial I would expect to be closer in color with the hands darker.

Concerning harmonius: I am more into 300 165.024 seamasters (dial, hands lume) . Never saw any speedy pre70ies....hat s the problem of most of us buying an unknown type...

@Spacefruit once wrote an article on his site about the visual presentation of a watch matters sometimes more then its parts. You can get an above average watch that just visually doesn’t communicate well. And you can sometimes get average pieces that present much better and feel more right.

I know I’ve seen this across the 145.022-xx series of watches. Hence my comment about it speaking to you.

Of course he said it better, and it may have been a comment on this forum but either way it really applies to Speedies.

I do not know if you have looked at this video?
But it has helped me Big Time, (thanks @Spacefruit !!) and even after looking at it more than a few times,
you will always find something new to learn!
