I think that's a classic retcon although it didn't originate with DIS. TNG kind of made it necessary.

I just watched the first episode. I haven't watched any Trek since Enterprise. I really liked it.

Paramount is giving out free crack samples. Right now you can watch the first episode free on YouTube.

I'm a huge Star Trek fan... To the point that I dragged my parents across state lines to do a convention when I was 12.

I have been super underwhelmed by everything they're done recently (except, Lower Decks is fun, and the Short Treks have some real gems, like the John H Benjamin episode about the origin of the Tribbles).

I really liked the first episode of Strange New Worlds. It's not perfect. It's heavy handed. There's some exposition that could have found a more artful route to the viewer. But, it had a THEME and it explored it consistently, which was a major upgrade from recent Treks. (And, in a technical note, the shot sequencing and editing was an upgrade from Discovery. I shoot and edit a lot of doc content professionally, and the editing rhythm on Discovery really bothered me - just endless fast cuts that felt disconnected from the needs of the scene/story).

Spoiler time: I think many of our issues as a civilization are rooted, as the episode argued, in our disbelief at our own mortality as a species. We fail to plan for the future of our planet because we are deluded into thinking it will all work out, somehow. But, death and extinction are real possibilities.

Lower Decks is fun
I tried to like it but the mouthy troublemaker ruins it and the adults are idiots.

3 episodes in and two thumbs up from me. Same vibe as the others in the new crop (Discovery and Picard), and that’s a mixed bag, but what sets it apart is that each episode has its own distinct story arc. I’m about that.

It’s going well, a lot of Easter eggs and nostalgia for TOS for sure

He does well though, it needed that swashbuckling hero with the winning smile to represent the best captain in Starfleet and him being a jacked silver fox type bloke is perfect.

He reminds me of Alfredo Paramico oddly enough lol

Anson Mount definitely has the charm and also comes across as a thoughtful person as well, at least to me. He almost exudes "trustworthy" and I'm glad they selected him.

Great video showing how the new series has paid homage to TOS in the season finale...

I just watched that video. I liked how true to the original episode they kept many of the scenes.

Yeah, for sure. Can't be totally 1:1 because Pike isn't Kirk, but interesting alternate reality.

Has SNW been the first serie where Gorn were explained as "the Alien breeding style" species?

I like the show a lot. Good cast, storytelling is not simply a rehash of formulas, not as ridiculously “woke” as Discovery. ( which I still watch)
