I recently have purchased this black dial 30 mm. Omega and wondered about the star under the ref. Any ideas?

Nice watch. I think the star is the case-maker's mark, but I don't know which one. I have asked the question here before, but got no answer . . .

The most obvious answer would be the Star Watch Case Company who did manufacture cases for Omega but I have never seen them use a "Star"

Thought it best to resurrect this thread then to start a new one as there is already reference here (or no reference actually).

I'm busy looking at a reference 2627-8sc which also has a star stamped into the caseback. Does anyone have any idea what it means yet?
I had a quick google of the star watch company but their hallmarks are different.

Not sure which company in Switzerland used the star, but it wasn't Star Watch Case Company. That was an American company that produced cases in the US only. Omega used them among many other case manufacturers.

    Hope this helps,

Stern company used a star also, but I know them only as a dial manufacturer - not sure if they made cases also...
    just a thought

If the stern company used a star, would they put it on the back of the dial traditionally as dial manufacturers?

    Thanks mac!

It looks like the stars are just placed there randomly but they are actually at the same angle on all the casebacks. Just an observation.

Found 3 companies used the up-side-down star, could one be case maker for Omega?

I say that we have a "probable cause" in this matter. :D Let us see some more stars/proofs, and the we can make a final conclusion. The picture to the right is mine and the watch is made in 1953.

It sure does, but the mark's owner was Sandoz & Breitmeyer. Not sure if or how Sandoz was related to that company though.

PS: S&B was succeeded by Georges-Jules Sandoz in 1903 and didn't seem to use the star trademark. Not sure what happened afterward.

    Best regards. T

The picture mark has the word Etoile (French for star) which is more prominent than the star so it's still not conclusive even though very close. Only a few S&B shown up on Google and none shows a star mark.

The specific star mantioned on Microlisk.de website and the logo, "Etoile", with a star belongin to the company Sandoz & Breitmeyer should be the manufacturer of those cases. The star is 100% similar.
That´s my conclusion. Any other ones?
