Spring bar shoulder puzzlement…

When I look into the use of spring bars with shoulders vs flanges, most sources and forums say spring bars with shoulders are used for lugs that are pierced.

If we assume that this is accurate, how does one decide whether to use the single, or double shoulder variety? After all, if you’re removing them by poking them out from the outside of the lug, what difference does it make? And, with installation, on a strap, only the tips would besti king out anyway. And on a bracelet, one would probably opt for flanges. Thanks for any insights.

I only use the stainless steel double flange spring bars, myself. Regardless of the lugs on the watch.

I try to avoid those telescoping double shoulder spring-bars, the ends are pretty weak. And so far, I haven't run into a watch where they are really necessary.

I haven’t found that to be a problem.

I thought you used the flanged spring-bars, which are obviously fine, since we use them on all watches without lug holes. I was referring to the double-shoulder spring-bars without flanges. I've received a number of watches with the double-shoulder spring-bars installed, and they are often floppy and falling apart.

These are what I use. Flanged? Double shoulder? Semantics. Continue to use what works for you!

Those are flanged. Here is what the OP is referring to as double-shoulder. They are totally different, it's not semantics.

This is my understanding as well.

I’ve never heard that style of spring bar called “double shoulder”!

I know, they seem pointless and I don't like them. This photo is from the Esslinger site, so it's the actual name.

So, OEM Omega bars: single, or double flange?

Another user here, I hate finding a watch with these and blind holes in the lugs and replace them with double flange.

And as to nomenclature, this is what they're called in Oz.

I always use the double flange variety if I can.

As long as I can use a spring bar tool to compress the bar for removal I'll use it. Too many of those pictured will be impossible to use unless you have drilled lugs, stay away from them.
