Speidel sprung strap cleaning

Hi I have obtained a Ladies Omega Geneve mounted on a gold plated Speidel sprung strap. The strap is totally filthy. Is it safe to clean the strap in an ultrasonic bath or will this destroy its sprung mechanism?

Thanks for your advice

It’s not only fine, it’s by far the best way.

Watch the gunk come out of it! Might need several cycles,

The best (and only IMO) way to clean these is to stretch it so that the links are all exposed.

You can do that in the dishwasher, or use a plastic ruler and elastic bands to hold it open.
If you use an ultrasonic, you can stretch the strap around a large plastic jar lid if you don't have a specific bracelet holder.

Unless you stretch the bracelet open, all you will do is loosen gunk that will sit inside the bracelet.

After the ultrasonic cleaner I rinse the strap under running water and hold it “open”, sometimes link by link.

Ah I forget to mention:
You can add some denture cleaning tabs to the ultrasonic warm water that kills all the bacteria.
