It’s Speedy Tuesday! On this very last day of 2013, we thought it would be nice to do a side-by-side article on three different Speedmaster ’57 models. One of them is the very first Omega Speedmaster from 1957, reference CK2915 with caliber 321 movement. The holy grail to a lot of Speedmaster collectors and enthusiasts. Nice article RJ, A 57 reissue is coming to my collection soon, so a happy coincidence to read this article
I am probably very very wrong, but does anyone else has any bells ringing when you see this CK2915 case. I have seen some of these original -57 models and none of those has this kind of etched cases. I used to own one Seamaster CK2913 -58 and its case was perfect. I start to wonder if this is another from Australia... Don't shoot me but see for yourself this very good discussion: http://omegaforums.net/threads/early-polerouter-sub-discussion.3630/#post-42368
I am sorry to say that I believe that the 1957 Speedmaster has a modern recasting of an original Speedmaster case. The shape and beveling is not quite correct. The steel is also poor quality. Poor recastings have those black marks on the steel. I would be very curious to see the serial number on the movement, although perhaps it is just an early movement put into that modern case. It is probably coming from the same place as the fake Polerouter Subs and fake Heuer Bundeswehrs.
