Speedy Tintin information gathering

Just to be transparent. I joined OF to give insight to this thread. I am a Rolex collector that happens to have a couple choice Speedmasters. TinTin is just 1. I’ve never sold an Omega, or Rolex or Patek. I buy to keep. I have friends who were involved in The TinTin. Much of what I’ve said has been echoed by others-others who would know.

Checklist
This is a Speedmaster. Therefore Popular-Check. Iconic-Check. It’s also a professional with hesalite, 1861, bracelet-Check. It’s rare-Check. It has a great story-Check. It looks great(better in person)-Check. Well known collectors are buying these-Check. Omega has a tour they give and secretly show off the TinTin with the Rocket at 11, mystery and exclusivity-Check. Less than 2000 made-closer to less than 1500 after Dial’s were destroyed-this makes it again rarer than many more expensive variants-Check. This watch essentially was an error, a mistake, mistakes in the collectors world are generally even more sought after-Check.

2 recently sold for over $5k on revolution watch. 1 sold recently on Chrono24 for $6800. These were $3000 last year. $10,000.... easy. Just keep your eyes on the sales.

Lastly sour grapes are a tough game. Sadness overcomes people who flipped theirs at a now loss, or wanted to buy one at $3000 but can’t any longer. It’s a tough game we’ve all been part of, I know I badly lost out on a Rolex Daytona because I never thought the prices would DOUBLE. I don’t currently have my specific Daytona and everytime I check the prices continue to go up. I can afford it but psychologically can’t close the deal-I have Daytona sour grapes. It’s part of what makes us watch nerds crazy. I’m there with empathy.

Can we see some of your Rolex and Pateks?

Do we need to see them with a copy of today’s newspaper and hand on a bible for it to be true?

Another post pumping the future value of the Tintin - check.

I remember friends laughing at my $7000 cartoon dogged themed watch. I’m good at picking them. Trust this idea... There is more money to be made in Rolex and Patek than trying to “pump” up the value of a Speedmaster. Even a $25k Silver Snoopy is a bargain compared to $100k plus Rolex and Patek. Selling watches will never be part of my life. There is even more money in my day job helping large corporations market their products. Watches are a great respite and break from that life. Cynical responses are just as important to the success of a product as are the praise type response. As a student of Edward Bernays I appreciate all of your responses.

$8200 and $7200 and one with price upon request
Prices are like a stock ticker when The Donald says tax cut

Chrono24 rarely seems to track reality... Usually anything there can be sourced elsewhere for a bit less, especially since a lot of what they have are dealers buying from owners and then marking them up 25-30%. Be the person who buys from the owner before the dealer has a chance and you will get a much better price.

Stumbled across this, apologize if it's already been linked to in other threads, but since it features a tintin thought I would share:

https://deployant.com/watches-in-slow-motion-through-the-eyes-of-a-high-speed-camera-video-heavy/

Very cool but a complete shame they filmed it in B&W. I didn't read the article but perhaps they couldn't use color? It would have been so much cooler in color and if they would have actually ran the chronograph when they filmed. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve looked almost everyday since I bought one at HQ. First day it has been listed.
From what I see at HQ, they price watches to sell and they will negotiate. They don’t move the merchandise they don’t eat.
Somebody should snatch it up

Sorry to hijack the thread a little bit is there a way to determine what year your Tintin was made? Would I have to go to an omega boutique for that?
Just hoping mines a 2015 so it matches my sons birth year.

It's not the same one that he had listed through June and early July. That one had a decent sized scratch on the right side lug on the 12 o'clock side of the case and it also had a pretty good scratch on the hesalite right at the 12 o'clock marker. It did not have box and papers or all the links to the bracelet after it was sized. He listed it either right at what this watch is listed at or even a bit more. He was willing to go lower on the price.

Is that the same watch you purchased?

An OB may be able to tell you but there is no way to tell from the information we have. The serial number is actually the movement serial number and with the 1861 movement being used for several variants of the Speedy they are spread out over a range much larger than the Tintin's production numbers.

I think it's a different watch as well. The previous one they had, which they must have sold recently, had a notable scratch that I'm not seeing on the current one listed.
