Who knows. The couple that are $5393 from Japan were $3800 3 days ago.
Like I said very unscientific.
Somebody just bought one for $6245

Just to be clear... the same dealer was selling those watches for over $1,500 less a few days ago? Are you sure - why didn’t they sell I wonder?

Hell, I don’t know why. Just saw the two from Japan at $3800, they are actually $5403 now.

If nothing else, the length of this thread shows there is a ridiculous amount of interest in this watch, people scrambling to buy them will force the price up like a self-fulfilling prophecy

Are you sure about those three Japan models being $3800 three days ago? When I started seriously looking for one late last year $3800 was a common price for pre-owned and excellent condition models. I put it off because I wanted to find one in great shape with box and papers and I thought I could do better than that price. Then all of a sudden around May the prices shot up and it was hard to find them for less than $4500 pre-owned. I was lucky to get the one I did two weeks ago.

I don’t have to. Stay tuned.

Every one of your posts on this forum is in this thread or the ST#2 thread, all attempting to pump the future value of the Tintin watch. It's transparent and obvious.

How many are you sitting on looking to flip? 😀

I don’t sell watches. Never have and never will. My TinTin was given to me by a friend at Omega. I’ll never sell it. Find a thread that suits your interests or, contribute something of value to this one.

Maybe take your own advice and contribute something more/different than your self-interested predictions on the future value of your watch.

Well....I get to wear my "son's watch" for another 13 years.......he just turned 5 last month. I guess Daddy finally made a half-way decent investment.....

...if not...still love the TINTIN!

Not necessary but I do thank you. I’m a good advocate for myself. No worries. There are not many TinTin’s out there-your anger/attitude/apathy/ won’t change a thing. I remember years ago the Silver Snoopy had the same detractors, angry that they didn’t own one and “how could they be selling for $7-$8000”. Or those who resented the whole concept and “never would buy one” Now look. It’s just the way it will be again only this time around there are even less to go around.

I do agree that watches are not investments and should not be looked at one but I also can see another viewpoint. It's kind of cool to realize something you have collected is sought after and valued by others. I think most collectors feel they'll never sell these pieces but then again something happens and they may need to or their interests change... It's nice to know if that happens you may still be able to break even.

At any rate, @bluebarb, have you updated the German Tank Problem method yet? I'm curious if we think that is working. Also, what percentage of the movement serials you are tracking has come back to us again?

One thing I find interesting is the worldwide market for watches. Every corner of Earth is covered by the watch market. Well at least the parts where a person has few grand of disposable income to blow on a watch.

Except this is incredibly different. There were never hoards of snoopys lying around at reasonable prices. They were always over 10k - and at a time when 10k bought a heck of a lot more than it does today.
Tin Tins were literally floating around in bulk for $3k and under for the better part of the last 2 years. Many would sit for weeks.
Why have they moved up? Well look at everything else around it! $3,4, and 5k has simply become “cheap” relatively speaking. Not because all of a sudden a few people have been hyping it.
It’s still a decent value for a limited production speedmaster and will move up if everything else does, but these will likely not surpass many of the other popular runs in my opinion.

^^^Agree 100%. It is fun to watch the price increase- particularly because I paid just over $4K for mine- but the TinTin (or "Destination Moon", if you don't like the colloquialism) is a long way from being a $10K watch, at least in the near future. Once all the "trickle down" examples are finally sold, I could see these settling into the $6-8K USD range (2018 dollars) when they come up for sale secondhand. Still a nice premium on what is effectively a rare watch, but the looks and the interesting history behind this one matter far more than the market price, in my opinion.

Just to be transparent. I joined OF to give insight to this thread. I am a Rolex collector that happens to have a couple choice Speedmasters. TinTin is just 1. I’ve never sold an Omega, or Rolex or Patek. I buy to keep. I have friends who were involved in The TinTin. Much of what I’ve said has been echoed by others-others who would know.

Checklist
This is a Speedmaster. Therefore Popular-Check. Iconic-Check. It’s also a professional with hesalite, 1861, bracelet-Check. It’s rare-Check. It has a great story-Check. It looks great(better in person)-Check. Well known collectors are buying these-Check. Omega has a tour they give and secretly show off the TinTin with the Rocket at 11, mystery and exclusivity-Check. Less than 2000 made-closer to less than 1500 after Dial’s were destroyed-this makes it again rarer than many more expensive variants-Check. This watch essentially was an error, a mistake, mistakes in the collectors world are generally even more sought after-Check.

2 recently sold for over $5k on revolution watch. 1 sold recently on Chrono24 for $6800. These were $3000 last year. $10,000.... easy. Just keep your eyes on the sales.

Lastly sour grapes are a tough game. Sadness overcomes people who flipped theirs at a now loss, or wanted to buy one at $3000 but can’t any longer. It’s a tough game we’ve all been part of, I know I badly lost out on a Rolex Daytona because I never thought the prices would DOUBLE. I don’t currently have my specific Daytona and everytime I check the prices continue to go up. I can afford it but psychologically can’t close the deal-I have Daytona sour grapes. It’s part of what makes us watch nerds crazy. I’m there with empathy.

I feel like I need to kiss bluebarb and
Sunsetamps. After being browbeaten about having bought a couple schlock redial Omegas, which in my opinion are good looking watches, I decided to go modern. After looking around at various Omegas and Tudor watches I came across this thread. The racing Tintin was interesting. My youngest son is a sports car nut. 700Hp Subaru and a 700hp Vette I thought this watch would be for him once I die or decide to give it to him. Thanks again to the thread originators. I feel very fortunate to get the watch at $4000 8 days ago.
My kid will have a valuable timepiece. I’ll have to stipulate he doesn’t sell it for a turbo charger or some other sports car accessory.
Cheers again
