Speedy Tintin information gathering

I got her BNIB from @Kringkily last Sept. Absolutely no issues and I put her on a NATO band (original bracelet never worn).
Snap! I bought mine from the same member around the same time. Wore it on the bracelet for about a week before I decided it needed a NATO, and picked up the cheap strap on the left as a proof of concept. These days it spends most of its time on the middle strap, but it wears the Martini Racing on the right whenever I go to the track.

I bought mine because I had been thinking about getting a Speedy, and the Tintin checked that box while also having a cool backstory and a unique look. If it turns out also to have been a shrewd investment years from now, so much the better, but it’s not going to spend its life in a vault, that’s for sure. 😀

As I understand it, images were posted on a couple of sites early on but were taken down after the Herge copyright owners threatened legal action.

That said, if anyone has images and would care to share them privately, please shoot me a msg - I for one would love to see 'em.

Those Herge people seem like real pieces of work... I'd love to see a picture of the completed "rocket dial" too. Was it supposed to replace the Speedmaster logo at 12 o'clock? Not a lot of room on the dial otherwise...

I believe it was actually at 11. Not sure why.

I don't wear mine often enough, but will be on my wrist all weekend:

Over the weekend, I went back and read this entire thread, and a couple of random observations came up:

1.) Apparently (per the 2015 case cited in this thread) the Herge family doesn’t actually own the rights to the Tin Tin comics? Maybe this means we could eventually see pictures of that prototype... (or at least guy can dream, can’t he?)

2.) I noticed with a side-by-side comparison that my Tin Tin Speedy’s indices are noticeably thinner than the indices on my Speedy Moonwatch. I thought it was an optical illusion at first, but after looking at the lume on both side-by-side, the indices are, in fact, narrower (picture below) . As others have said, the dial on the Tin Tin is definitely glossier as well, almost as if it’s got a clear-coat of some type on it. It really makes the contrast “pop”.

As you can see, the Tin Tin has been worn every day and kept wound, while I have neglected my poor Moonwatch and allowed it to run down...

@sevenhelmet the company who own the rights to TinTin aren’t known for their... flexible attitude. 😉

Agreed. That is the driving factor behind the Speedy TinTin being what it is.

However, I was referring to this article, which I found when I went back and read this thread in its entirety. Perhaps the group that's been assailing anyone and everyone who uses the TinTin name can no longer do so? Surprising that this hasn't been discussed more, particularly in threads like this one.

So....has anyone ever seen what the original Tin Tin dial and caseback were going to look like in person? Or perhaps are there pictures of it?

I mean....there are pictures and even video of the fake moon landing nearly a half century ago. But there is nothing from a watch designed/manufactured around ~2012-2013?! 😉

There is one in the Omega Museum. But it is not on display. You have to ask to see it and sometimes they will show you.
I know someone who did this and they even let him take photos - though he is not allowed to post them on the internet - he sent me some 'censored' versions which he seems to be able to share so if you want to see them shoot me a pm

That's correct 👍

So suppose Omega now decides to takeout a TinTin Limited Edition watch next year, in light of no copyright available to Hergé trust or family or publisher, what will be it’s impact on this on our TinTin watch? Will it be more collectible or less in demand? I look forward to reading your opinion on this hypothetical question that’s relevant in light of this article.

Interestingly, this Guardian article, dated a few weeks after the above ruling, suggests that Moulinsart was going to challenge the decision, but I can find no further mention of such a challenge.

Is someone able to describe, in incredible detail, the Tintin piece that resides at the Omega museum? I may be able to piece together an amateur sketch...
