Not really. Omega did change their boxes a few months ago, on all of their ranges. For many years, the tatty red box was accepted, but the new wooden box is much more becoming of such an expensive item. However, the box will still sit in a cupboard so who cares, really?

I wonder when production of the wooden boxes was started. Does anybody know when Omegas started to appear with them?
I care, because I would have used it for display purposes. The wooden box is worth a few hundred (per ebay pricing), whereas the older boxes are worth $50. Even if you don't want it, that's still $200 in extras you could have had for--apparently--the same price. It'd be like Omega throwing in a free Nato strap. Why wouldn't you be disappointed if you missed out on it? It'd be easy to turn into cash on ebay, and people are always looking for watch boxes.

Assuming the switch was done uniformly, then it would have been no earlier than the last 3 months of 2015, as mine was purchased new in September. However, at least through grey dealers online, I'm only seeing the newer black presentation box being available for certain models--I've not yet found an example of a greydealer watch being sold with the natural colored wooden box.

My local boutique has completely switched to the wood boxes for all purchases. They ran out of the little red travel zip up cases which are used when returning watches that had come in for service, so they were temporarily using the new wood box for service watches.. pretty nice.

I had accumulated about 10 of the travel cases so I did them a favor and gave them my zip ups to save on boxes... they offered me a box but I didn't feel like carrying it home that day. I should probably go back and get one before they change their mind, my most recent Tintin acquisition came in the crappy red box.

I'd do it 馃榾 I'm sure the price on the wood boxes will fall at some point, but for now they seem to be commanding a decent price on ebay (like the black presentation box). I'd sure like one to display my tintin when not on my wrist.

So perhaps you could email Omega and see if they will replace your box. However, if it's for "display purposes", you wouldn't want to sell it so the red box would be just as suitable.

The boxes with some of the LEs are amazing, but the wooden box, although nice doesn't bother me massively. I have one yes, and that's nice, but mainly because it shows my watch was from a later batch, rather than anything else.

Somehow I doubt they would, but I guess it can't hurt to ask. The wooden box looks SO much nicer than the standard red box (which is essentially just lined with cardboard). I display my watches in their original red cases, but I do so begrudgingly. I really have no love for those poorly made pieces of junk.

I'd just email Omega CS, or speak to your local AD. Worth a go.

I noticed that you have a fancy wood box--at first I thought it was just a nice presentation box of an unknown make, but then I noticed that dubois has the same box too (and it's Omega-branded). I know it's nothing like the nice new presentation box that's being packaged with certain moonwatches (comes with a loupe, nato strap, etc). As far as I know, Omega only ever sold this model in the standard red case with white box.

It came with it - its from November 2015 - in fact part of the reason I got the tintin was the box - i wasn't looking to get another speedmaster - it has the wow factor as we all know how bad the red boxes get over time/use

Absolutely--my oldest red box was comfortably resting in its whitebox for years, and parts of the red (whatever that material is) broke off in different places. I never even handled the darn thing.

Dear omega Tintin afficonadiaos 馃槈,

an important point to me regarding Tintin Speedy Vs Japan RacingReedition 2004 ,is that the first one has its proper history,"the Moulinsard gate" i named it馃槈 and the famous "Vs between Omega and Herge"the Author of Tintin Adventures..

When the 2004 reedition Japan Racing is desirable in my humble opinion just because of the fame of the 70 s one...

My 2 cents 馃槈

That's probably a true point--people love the 2004 edition because of the similarities to the old racing. It's nice to have modern equivalents, since many people out there don't want vintage, but still love the look. I personally prefer the subtle look of the 2004 racing to the tintin, but that's not to say that I don't love my tintin watch.

Opinions please? I bought both of these new and can't decide! I'm leaning toward the one with the red edging, but the stripe version is growing on me...
